Champions League 2016 Results: Tuesday's Quarter-Final Scores, Top-Scorers List
Barcelona and Bayern Munich both notched narrow wins in the home legs of their Champions League quarter-final ties against Atletico Madrid and Benfica, respectively
The reigning champions won 2-1 after coming from behind against Atletico, with Luis Suarez bagging a second-half brace. Fernando Torres had given the visitors a first-half lead but was sent off just 10 minutes later.
In the day’s other game, Bayern put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the final four, as they beat Benfica 1-0 in Munich at the Allianz Arena. Arturo Vidal put the Germans in front after two minutes, and while the visitors did well to keep the score down, manager Pep Guardiola’s side will have been delighted to take a clean sheet to Lisbon, Portugal, next week.

Tuesday Recap

Suarez was typically at the centre of attention for Barcelona, as the reigning champions survived a scare against Atletico.
The Uruguay international was involved in a couple of flash points in the game that could have potentially seen him dismissed; one in the first half especially—when he kicked out at Juanfran—was a lucky escape. But he stayed on the pitch to help turn the game around for the hosts, netting two second-half goals.
As OptaJose noted in the aftermath of the contest, Suarez has been in particularly good form in this tournament in an incredible season for the striker:
Barcelona were frustrated in their efforts early on, and after both Lionel Messi and Neymar missed chances, Torres pounced on a fine pass from Koke to put Atletico ahead.

As noted by WhoScored.com, the striker has a habit of getting on the scoresheet against the Catalan side:
He quickly undid that good work, though, as two petulant pieces of play saw a red card send Torres back to the dressing room.
Firstly, the official cautioned him for a needless trip, and then just six minutes later, the Atletico man received another yellow card. BT Sport Football showed us the moment Torres clattered into Sergio Busquets, his first booking and his opening goal too:
Still, Bleacher Report’s Gianni Verschueren feels as though the Madrid outfit were ultimately hard done by given Barcelona’s goalscorer on the night could have suffered a similar fate:
Bayern got their quarter-final tie off to a wonderful start, as they netted inside the opening two minutes against Benfica.
Just 108 seconds after kicking off, Vidal leapt highest to head home Juan Bernat’s cross, sending the Allianz Arena into a frenzy. As STATS Football notes here, the Chilean seems to come alive at this stage of the competition:
"Arturo Vidal's last 2 #UCL goals have both come in the Quarterfinals.

From there it seemed that Bayern would make this tie safe, as on home soil they are proficient at beating teams by a heavy margin.

But Benfica showed they will be no pushovers in this quarter-final and battled well for the rest of the game.
The visitors grew into the game following the early setback, and while the likes of Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski were always a threat—as they’ve been in the Champions League all season—goalkeeper Ederson Moraes was able to keep his goal intact for the rest of the contest.
Sport Witness’ Jan Hagen praised the determination of Benfica and thinks this is a tie that remains very much in the balance:
With no goals for Lewandowski, Real Madrid man Cristiano Ronaldo remains five clear in the top-scorer standings, with a whopping 13 goals for the season.
The Portuguese has a chance to bolster his haul on Wednesday too, as Los Blancos make the trip to Wolfsburg for their quarter-final. In the day’s other game, star strikers Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be hoping to make the difference for their respective sides when Manchester City make the trip to Paris Saint-Germain.
