Wambach released the following statement on her Facebook page after her arrest:
Wambach, who retired in 2015, finished her soccer career as the all-time leading scorer, among men and women, in the history of international football. She helped lead the United States to a World Cup title in 2015 and to gold medals in the 2004 and 2012 Olympics.
She was named the 2012 FIFA Women's World Player of the Year and, outside of perhaps only Mia Hamm, retired as the most decorated soccer player in United States history.
Wambach is scheduled to appear in court again on April 26.
