Bayern Munich vs. Eintracht Frankfurt: Score, Reaction from 2016 Bundesliga Game

Mike ChiariApr 2, 2016

Bayern Munich tightened their grip on first place in the Bundesliga standings Saturday, as they defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 at Allianz Arena in Munich.

The FCB got their lone goal from Franck Ribery in the 20th minute, and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer kept a clean sheet in a match that featured no shots on target by Frankfurt, according to WhoScored.com.

According to Squawka Football, Bayern have proved impossible to score against over their past four-plus matches:

Saturday's victory put the Bavarians on 72 points and eight points ahead of second-place Borussia Dortmund prior to the Black and Yellows' clash with Werder Bremen.

Although the scoreline didn't necessarily reflect it, Bayern were dominant Saturday, as they outshot Frankfurt by a 21-4 margin.

The talented FCB starting XI were all over the Eagles from the onset, and they finally broke through in the 20th minute when Ribery beat goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky with this remarkable overhead strike, courtesy of Fox Soccer:

It was a huge goal for the 32-year-old Frenchman, not only because it put his team on top, but also due to the fact Bayern were celebrating his 200th career Bundesliga appearance, as seen in this photo from the club's official Twitter account:

While Bayern held a 1-0 advantage at half-time, Frankfurt largely weathered the storm, which led CNN's Mark Lovell to point out the first-place club were in a somewhat dangerous position against the underdogs:

Even so, a blowout victory in favour of the Bavarians seemed likely based on how they carried the play throughout the match, but Hradecky was strong between the sticks and kept his side in the contest.

Frankfurt never truly had a chance, though, because they were unable to generate any type of consistent attack over the course of 90-plus minutes.

That has become a trend for them against Bayern over the past several years, as they haven't scored against the Reds since 2011, which set a new Bundesliga mark for futility, per OptaFranz:

Frankfurt did manage to get a few shots toward Bayern's goal in the latter stages of the match, which may have caused some of the home fans to hold their breath, but Neuer was never forced to turn one aside.

Although one fluke could have resulted in a disappointing draw for FCB, they proved Saturday they are capable of winning matches even when the finishing touch isn't fully present.

Some may look at a 1-0 win at home over a 17th-place club as a cause for concern, but the Bavarians left no doubt throughout the match they were the far superior side.

Bayern came away victorious without superstars such as Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski finding the back of the net, which is a scary thought for the rest of the Bundesliga.

The Reds now have an extremely comfortable advantage over Dortmund with the season winding down, and provided they continue to turn in performances like the one they executed against Frankfurt, a fourth consecutive title is very much within reach.

Post-Match Reaction

On the heels of Bayern's victory, manager Pep Guardiola took to the podium and praised the manner in which his team played during the early going:

Guardiola also echoed the sentiments of most who saw it by praising Ribery's impressive bicycle kick goal, which proved to be the difference in the match:

While Bayern's victory was huge in terms of taking another step toward the Bundesliga title, Guardiola didn't dwell much on it, as he already started to look ahead toward their Champions League clash with Benfica Tuesday:

FCB will likely need a better finishing touch in order to defeat a much tougher opponent in Benfica, but they certainly seem ready in terms of dictating the pace of play and limiting scoring opportunities, much like they did against Frankfurt.
