Gianni VerschuerenApr 1, 2016

Rayo Vallecano beat Getafe, 2-0, in a vital relegation clash during Friday's Week 31 La Liga action, putting some much-needed distance between themselves and the clubs at the bottom of the standings.

Javi Guerra opened the score before half-time, and Miku added a second goal after the break, as Getafe posed little resistance to the club from the capital.

All eyes will be on the Camp Nou on Saturday, as Real Madrid travel to Barcelona for the Clasico, a match with serious title implications.

Recap

MADRID, SPAIN - APRIL 01: Javi Guerra of Rayo Vallecano de Madrid celebrates after scoring his team's opening goal after having a goal disallowed earlier during the La Liga match between Rayo Vallecano and Getafe CF at Estadio de Vallecas on April 1, 201

There was much on the line during Friday's clash in Madrid, with two clubs in danger of dropping out of Spain's top division going head-to-head, and Rayo proved to be the better, cruising to a 2-0 win.

Guerra opened the score after just 15 minutes, and per La Liga writer Javier J. Hernandez, it brought an end to quite the scoreless streak for the veteran:

Guerra pushed the ball over the line after a wild scramble inside the box, and replays showed the 34-year-old was well offside when the ball was played in his direction.

Yoel Rodriguez's night came to an end before it had even started, as the substitute goalkeeper was sent off out of nowhere. Fans at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas had no idea why the Argentinian received his walking papers, and they took their frustration out on the official, as the first half nearly descended into chaos.

But amid the controversy, Rayo continued to play well, and at half-time, AS English thought the visitors were unlikely to grab any points from this contest:

Rayo continued their dominance after half-time and deservedly doubled their lead after 71 minutes, as Miku pushed home a delightful cross. From that point onward, the hosts closed shop and cruised to the finish line, opening up a three-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

Week 31 of the 2015-16 campaign will be all about the Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid, with the latter team desperate for a win to keep their slim title hopes alive.

As shared by the official Twitter account of the UEFA Champions League, Blaugrana manager Luis Enrique think his team can deliver Los Blancos a decisive and final blow:

The Catalans lead La Liga by a healthy margin, and even a defeat on Saturday would barely dent their title odds. Real's may very well be gone if they suffer yet another defeat at the Camp Nou.

Atletico Madrid are expected to cruise to a win at home against Real Betis, but their title odds will depend on the result of the Clasico. If Barcelona win and maintain their nine-point lead, things won't look good for the Rojiblanco.
