The Guardian's Josh Halliday provided details of an additional fine Johnson must pay, as well as further insight into his arrest:
It was originally noted by the Daily Mail's Craig Hope that Johnson was "stripped of his England caps," but BBC Sport's Richard Conway reported he has not been stripped of his England caps.
Heart NE News provided footage of Johnson's arrival at court:
The guilty verdict was passed down earlier in March when Johnson, 28, was also cleared of one additional count of sexual activity with a child, per Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas.
As reported by Thomas, prior to the trial, the former Sunderland and Manchester City star had "pleaded guilty to two other charges of kissing and grooming" a 15-year-old girl.
According to Judge Jonathan Rose, the girl in question was a "'massive Sunderland fan' who was infatuated with [Johnson]," per BBC News.
The BBC report stated that Johnson's defence case accused the girl of being a "proven liar who made up the other allegations."
The evidence against Johnson included 834 WhatsApp messages exchanged between the pair in just over a month.
Halliday provided a statement from the victim after the verdict was passed down:
Meanwhile, Halliday relayed a message of support from Johnson's sister, Faye, ahead of the sentencing:
Per Louise Taylor of the Guardian, Johnson was promptly sacked by Sunderland and dropped by boot sponsor Adidas after he pleaded guilty ahead of the trial in February.
As noted by Thomas, Johnson had previously been warned by Rose that he could "expect between four and 10 years" in prison.
