EPL Results: Updated Premier League Table, Odds After Saturday's Week 31 Scores

Tim DanielsMar 19, 2016

Leicester City took another step toward giving their Cinderella run a storybook ending Saturday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. The Foxes are now eight points ahead of second-place Tottenham Hotspur atop the Premier League table, an unthinkable position when the campaign began.

Even though Leicester haven't been dominant in recent weeks—Saturday marked their fourth 1-0 win in the past five league matches—they are finding ways to get all three points. Being able to navigate some tricky fixtures as the pressure starts to mount is an impressive feat.

Let's check out all of the results from Saturday's play around the EPL. That's followed by a look at the table, the current title odds and a recap of some key storylines.

Trending Up: Arsenal

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - MARCH 19: David Ospina of Arsenal celebrates with Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal of Arsenal after Alex Iwobi of Arsenal scored a goal to make it 0-2 during the Barclays Premier League match between Everton and Arsenal at Goodison

Although Leicester's victory ensured it wouldn't be a perfect day for Arsenal, the Gunners held serve with a 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park. Danny Welbeck scored less than 10 minutes into the match, and the Gunners cruised from there as the Toffees rarely threatened.

Arsenal are going to need some help in order to chase down the Foxes. That said, the top priority from their perspective remains taking care of their own business down the stretch. Saturday's performance showcased a club that looks primed for a strong finish.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger doesn't think his side is out of the title race. The Gunners are 11 points back, but they do have an extra match to play. He commented about the situation after the victory over Everton, as relayed by the club's official site:

"

I would not consider us out. Mathematically, we have a chance. We also have a game in hand at home. We are not flavor of the week, but if we don't believe, no one will do it for us. Even if the environment is skeptical, we have to do our best in every single game. We have to be humble and fight in every game like we did today. Then we never know. We need some performances on our side, so let's focus on that, but some good results from other sides, we cannot help that.

"

Arsenal should rack up a lot of points the rest of the way if they can showcase the same form over the remaining games that they did against the Toffees. Former Premier League star Michael Owen liked what he witnessed from the club:

Whether that would end up being enough to swoop in and steal the title depends on whether Leicester falter, and there haven't been any signs of that so far. But the Gunners can make sure the pressure stays on the leaders' shoulders by continuing to get positive results.

Trending Down: Chelsea

Chelsea have played much better football during the second half of the campaign. In fact, the Blues had been making a quiet rise back into the European conversation for next term despite a dreadful start. But only managing a home draw with West Ham is a significant blow to those chances.

The Irons are occupying the fifth spot in the table, nine points ahead of Chelsea. That's why getting three points Saturday could have provided such a boost. Instead, the reigning champions needed some heroics from Cesc Fabregas just to salvage a draw.

Guus Hiddink isn't prepared to concede the race for Europe quite yet, though. Dimitri Kondonis of Get West London passed along comments from the Blues' interim boss about what he still wants to see from his group over the final quarter of the campaign:

"

We would have liked to have many more victories as West Ham is doing now for those Champions League positions. They deserve many compliments for their squad and their coaching.

Our target now is to see if we can get the European spot and also, second, I think having this half-season—the players have to show why they are playing at a big club.

"

While there's still an outside chance that could happen, it became a bigger long shot after Saturday's failure to get all three points. Not only would Chelsea need to make up a lot of points, but there are now so many clubs in the race that a lot of things would need to break properly for the Blues to climb the table.

In the end, their shockingly slow start will likely come back to doom them in the end.
