Recap
Things went against Watford even before kick-off, when they were forced into some reshuffling thanks to a key injury at the back. Adam Newson of the Watford Observer provided details:
The disjointed nature of the home side no doubt played its part in what was a very ragged first half. Neither side was composed in possession and the game descended into a stop-start affair.
But all that changed after the break when Leicester match-winner Mahrez struck. A smart touch in the box gave the Algerian room to swing his wand of a left foot. The connection was true and the ball arrowed into the top corner.
It was another typically decisive contribution from Mahrez, per BBC Sport:
He had been subdued during the opening 45 minutes. But Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri encouraged the winger to roam into the middle more often and play closer to striker Jamie Vardy after the break.
It was a switch that meant Leicester carried a far greater threat.
Watford would simply settle for carrying any sort of threat after failing to score yet again. Once free-scoring forward Odion Ighalo went closest, but his header with just over 10 minutes remaining was straight at City stopper Kasper Schmeichel.

The Foxes now fully merit their 13-10 odds as clear favourites with just nine games to go.
A point apiece did neither Arsenal nor Spurs much good, despite a riveting game at the Lane. It will be Tottenham who perhaps rue the dropped points more after battling back from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead against 10-man Arsenal.
The Gunners' numbers had been reduced when Francis Coquelin saw red after picking up his second yellow card just 10 minutes into the second half. At the time, the Gunners were leading 1-0 and seemed to be in control.
But Toby Alderweireld equalised on the hour mark, before Harry Kane unleashed a quite brilliant strike from out wide to beat Arsenal stand-in goalkeeper David Ospina.
As Squawka pointed out, Kane thrives against sides from the capital:
But Kane saw his fine effort answered by Alexis Sanchez following a quick combination of passes from Arsenal's desperate 10 men.
It's been a while since Chilean forward Sanchez has found the net in England's top flight:
There was controversy late on when Spurs' midfielder Eric Dier escaped a second yellow for a seemingly blatant infraction. As BBC Sport's Phil McNulty noted, the away side had plenty of justification to feel aggrieved:
Spurs are still 3-1 to win the league, which are good odds, but manager Mauricio Pochettino will know his side has now wasted two chances, including the recent 1-0 defeat at West Ham United, to go top. Failing to hold on against 10 men at home will be the most painful blow to take.
Meanwhile, Arsenal's odds continue to drift after failing to win for the third league game in a row. The Gunners are now firm outsiders at 5-1.
While two of the main contenders tussled to a stalemate, City reminded everyone they are far from out of this race. After being blanked by stubborn Villa in the first half at the Etihad Stadium, the hosts exploded with three quick goals.
Yaya Toure struck first to reaffirm his status as the most free-scoring midfielder in the division in recent years, per Squawka:
Then it was Aguero's turn to hit a quick-fire double. The first was supplied by gifted schemer David Silva, an assist that makes him the Premier League's most prolific provider since joining City, per OptaJoe:
Raheem Sterling ended the rout for rampant City, who represent a great outside bet for the title at 6-1.
Elsewhere, West Ham battled back from two goals down to beat Everton at Goodison Park and move ahead of Manchester United into fifth place. Midfield talisman Dimitri Payet netted the winner late on to give the Hammers a result that has boosted their own title odds.
Still, it's leaders Leicester City who will be happiest when they view the table, but the Foxes shouldn't forget about City, whose extra game could yet prove decisive.
