Despite dropping points in the midweek action, Leicester City's chances of winning an extraordinary Premier League title increased as Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester City all lost on Wednesday.

Spurs could have gone top of the league with a win against West Ham United but lost 1-0, and Arsenal fell to a second top-flight defeat in a row as they were downed 2-1 at home by struggling Swansea City.

Meanwhile, Manchester City were thumped 3-0 at Anfield and now sit 10 points back from the Foxes, tied with Manchester United after their 1-0 win against Watford.

Recap

Spurs had a brilliant chance to become the front-runners for the league title after Leicester's slip-up on Tuesday, but Michail Antonio's seventh-minute header proved their downfall.

It was never going to be an easy game for Tottenham at Upton Park, but they went into the clash on the back of five league wins on the bounce.

The Hammers were excellent, Antonio netting what proved to be the winner from Dimitri Payet's corner, and they limited Spurs to very few chances.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino bemoaned a "difficult" night for his side, per Sky Sports News HQ:

Spurs will undoubtedly be slightly comforted by the fact that arch-rivals Arsenal also failed to make gains on the top of the table, and the Gunners were playing at the Emirates against a poor Swansea side.

Joel Campbell gave the hosts an early lead as they looked to bounce back from Sunday's defeat at Old Trafford, but goals from Wayne Routledge and Ashley Williams turned the game on its head.

It was a massive win for the Welsh outfit who moved six points clear of the relegation zone. But for Arsene Wenger's side it was a hammer blow to their title hopes as their form seems to be taking a downward turn at the very worst time.

Even better for Leicester, Spurs and Arsenal meet at White Hart Lane on Saturday, meaning one or both of them are guaranteed to drop points.

Thus the Foxes will make further gains if they can beat Watford at the weekend.

City's loss will also have given Claudio Ranieri's side a huge boost, as much for the poor quality of the performance as the margin of defeat.

Liverpool dominated Manuel Pellegrini's side, Adam Lallana and James Milner adding goals ahead of half-time before Roberto Firmino put the icing on the cake soon after the break.

Leicester are not only rightful favourites for the title because of their position at the table's summit, but because they look like the only side prepared to fight for it, per BT Sport's Paul Scholes:

Spurs still have a great chance, and Saturday's clash with Arsenal is huge. Given the Gunners' recent poor form, Tottenham must fancy themselves to beat their north London rivals and effectively put them out of the title race.

And a victory could see them go to the top of the table as Watford will be no pushover for Leicester at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets pushed United all the way at Old Trafford on Wednesday, only falling to Juan Mata's 83rd-minute free-kick.

In this most unpredictable of seasons Leicester are still the team to beat, and none of their major challengers were able to make gains on Wednesday.
