Adam WellsFeb 10, 2016

A security guard who was working at TDECU Stadium during Houston's AAC title-clinching victory over Temple in December was charged with misdemeanor assault on Wednesday.

According to Meagan Flynn of the Houston Press, a grand jury indicted Derrick Hicks after videos captured him getting into a physical altercation with a University of Houston student who stormed the field following the Cougars' win.

Video of the incident involving stadium security and the student was captured and posted on various social media sites after it occurred:

Per Flynn's report, the school has since severed its contract with Contemporary Services Corporation, the security company that employed Hicks.

Even though Hicks has been charged with a misdemeanor for the incident, Flynn also noted that Harris County District Attorney's Office spokesman Jeff McShan said the office is continuing to investigate other guards to determine if they were involved in physical altercations.

Per Flynn, McShan added that there is some video footage appearing to show "some guards...enticing or challenging students to get on the field."

University of Houston athletic director Hunter Yurachek said after the incident that the school was still reviewing things, per Sam Khan Jr. of ESPN.com"We are working with the University of Houston police to review today's activities and will take swift and appropriate action including the termination of our current contract with CSC and any legal action deemed necessary."

Houston's victory over Temple on Dec. 5 gave the program its first football conference championship since 2006. The Cougars rode the wave of momentum to a 13-1 overall record, highlighted by a victory over Florida State in the Peach Bowl, and tied the school record for most wins in a season.
