Alex Perry Decommits from ASU: Latest Details and Reaction
Alex Perry surprisingly decommitted from Arizona State on national signing day and reopened his recruiting.
The 4-star Class of 2017 cornerback made the announcement Wednesday via Twitter and indicated the Sun Devils are still his top choice but that he’d like to ensure he’s making the right decision by taking a further look at other schools:
"I've decided to De-Commit from ASU and open up my recruitment. ASU is still a top pick for me, but I want to fully explore my options.

Perry, a product of Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), also has offers from Oklahoma State, UNLV, Utah and, most recently, Memphis, which offered him on Jan. 29.
His brother, Armand Perry, is a redshirt sophomore defensive back at Arizona State. But Alex indicated last May that playing with his brother isn’t his highest premium.
"At the same time, it’s my type of legacy so I want to do what I want to do,” he said, courtesy of Brandon Huffman of Scout.com.
Perry’s announcement comes over a year after he made his initial commitment to the Sun Devils in November of 2014. He was sold on how he’d fit into defensive coordinator Keith Patterson’s unit, per Huffman: "They’ve got a good defense. I like the way they run their defense. My brother is already in the program. He had a good freshman year. So every time I go there, they treat me like family, and I think it’s the best fit for me even though it’s an early commitment."
Arizona State ranked dead last in the Pac-12 in passing defense last year by a wide margin (337.5 yards allowed per game), which makes Perry’s decommitment even more of a major blow.
While he said the Sun Devils remain his top choice, he still has a full year before the 2017 class' signing day and will likely pick up more offers along the way that could sway him even further.
