Michigan Football: Wolverines' Top Remaining Recruiting Targets for NSD 2016
The final stretch leading up to national signing day 2016 for the Michigan football program is a critical time to finish strong with uncommitted targets.
Along with the names you've heard for months like Rashan Gary and Lavert Hill, the Wolverines have ramped up the pursuit of a few highly touted prospects.
Ordered by 247Sports composite rankings, the following six players are the top-ranked recruits who have expressed a large interest in Michigan and remain a realistic option to commit.
Connor Murphy, Defensive End
1 of 5If Connor Murphy sounds familiar, it's probably because Jim Harbaugh coached Trent Murphy at Stanford.
Harbaugh has drawn some headlines with his recruiting "sleepovers," where he shows up after midnight to avoid breaking an NCAA rule. He visited in-home with Murphy last week.
The 4-star, ranked No. 255 overall in the country, took his official visit to Ann Arbor a couple of days later. While Alabama is the final school on Murphy's list, he's already taken trips to Oregon and USC.
Murphy would be the highest-ranked defensive end in Michigan's class.
De La Salle (CA) Duo
2 of 5On the weekend of Jan. 22, the Wolverines hosted a pair of 4-star prospects from powerhouse De La Salle in California.
Defensive tackle Boss Tagaloa and tight end Devin Asiasi have visited UCLA, Washington and Michigan. The duo is headed to USC before signing day too.
Perhaps the biggest question concerning the teammates is if they're a package deal. Regardless, both players are future-focused needs for the Wolverines, because Chris Wormley, Ryan Glasgow and Jake Butt will run out of eligibility after 2017.
Tagaloa and Asiasi will announce their respective—but maybe similar—decisions on signing day.
Lavert Hill, Cornerback
3 of 5"It's kind of really stressful because I know a lot of people at both schools," Hill said of Michigan and Michigan State, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.
Hill is from Detroit. He's the No. 5 player in the state. His brother, Delano, plays safety for the Wolverines. The in-state and local appeal is strong.
Although Tennessee received a visit and Hill is scheduled to check out Clemson, he announced Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State as the finalists on Twitter.
Michigan's two longtime commits at the position recently backed out of their pledges, though 4-star David Long tabbed the Wolverines. If Hill picks Michigan, he and Long could be three-year starters at cornerback.
Jordan Fuller, Athlete
4 of 5
Jordan Fuller is down to Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State. That's not a bad group.
Bill Kurelic of 247Sports notes Harbaugh, Brian Kelly and Urban Meyer—in that order—will each have an in-home meeting with the nation's No. 6 athlete and No. 130 prospect.
The Wolverines had Fuller's most recent official visit, which followed a trip to Ohio State. He went to Notre Dame in mid-December.
Fuller announced he will release his commitment video on Twitter on Monday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. ET.
Rashan Gary, Defensive Lineman
5 of 5Every program in the country wants to land Gary's signature.
He has taken officials to Michigan, Ole Miss, Auburn and USC. He recently made an unofficial trip to Ann Arbor. LSU, Ohio State and Alabama have also sent coaches to check in with Gary.
The 5-star, who registered 27.5 sacks during his junior and senior seasons combined, should make an immediate impact no matter which school he chooses. Michigan is considered the favorite, but that doesn't matter until pen meets paper.
Per ESPN.com's Tom VanHaaren, the 2016 cycle's undisputed No. 1 prospect will announce his college choice at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN2 on signing day.
