Chris Daniels Decommits from Oklahoma: Latest Comments and Reaction

Alec NathanJan 20, 2016

A month after committing to the Oklahoma Sooners, prized defensive tackle prospect Chris Daniels has decided to decommit from head coach Bob Stoops' program and explore his options.

The 4-star stud from Euless, Texas, made his decision official Wednesday evening on Twitter:

According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Daniels is the 185th-ranked player overall in the class of 2016 and the 21st-ranked defensive tackle in his class.

Daniels has received interest from the University of Texas and Texas A&M, and according to Scout.com's Bob Przybylo, the 18-year-old visited Texas head coach Charlie Strong and the Longhorns last weekend.

Last October, Bleacher Report's Damon Sayles reported Daniels had whittled his top five down to Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Przybylo also noted Ole Miss and Tennessee are expected to be in the mix now that Daniels has decommitted.

After posting 45 tackles as a junior, Daniels notched 61 tackles—including nine for loss—as an imposing force in the middle of Trinity High School's defense.

"Daniels is a physical lineman who can be a disruptive run-stopper and put a lot of pressure on quarterbacks because of his quickness," Sayles wrote. "His best 40-yard dash is in the 4.8-second range, but he said he hasn't been clocked in the dash since adding 20 pounds to his frame."

At 6'3'' and 299 pounds, Daniels already has the pure size necessary to be a disruptive force upon arrival at the collegiate level. He's also capable of flying up the field off the edge if he sheds a few pounds.

"I feel like I can play any position on the line," Daniels said, per Sayles. "I'm trying to get a little more leaned out just so I can get some more of that speed back. If I can go 100 miles an hour, I'm good."

The question now is where he'll suit up when the 2016 college football season opens. With in-state schools hot on his tail, Daniels has a huge decision ahead after spurning the Sooners—who are without a single committed defensive lineman in their 2016 recruiting class, per Przybylo.
