Bryce Dixon, Ex-USC TE, Reportedly Arrested for Carjacking: Details, Reaction
Former USC Trojans tight end Bryce Dixon was reportedly arrested for carjacking near the campus Tuesday afternoon. TMZ reported the news Wednesday, indicating he was held on $100,000 bail.
Dixon was dismissed from the football program last year for a student-conduct issue and was ultimately expelled from the school, but he was permitted to enroll again this past August.
Richard Winton and Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reported Dixon and former LSU player Trey Lealaimatafao, who was dismissed frrom the Tigers, are "suspected of committing at least seven robberies."
As a true freshman in 2014, Dixon had 14 receptions for 198 yards and four touchdowns. Two of the five players who had more catches and yards than him, Nelson Agholor and Javorius Allen, started in the NFL as rookies this past season.
Dixon was initially expelled May 12, was suspended for one game in 2014 and was held out of 2015 spring practice. There were two separate allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against him in that span—both from a USC athletic trainer, per the Orange County Register's Michael Lev.
Ryan Abraham of USCFootball.com weighed in on the news of Dixon's reported arrest:
Although he is only 19 years old, this latest reported misstep away from the gridiron all but guarantees Dixon's college football career is over.
He flashed the type of talent that hinted at an NFL future if he were to have stayed with the Trojans and continued on his promising trajectory.
Now, not only is it out of the question for Dixon to suit up for USC again, but he may never be able to play again at the NCAA's highest level. If he's meant to have any football to look forward to, it's likely to come from a small school, where he'd have a lot of trust to build.
