UK Back Pages: Wayne Rooney Is Hailed for His Winner at Liverpool
When England's all-time leading scorer scores the winner in traditionally the biggest game in English football, his name is going to be splashed all across the press.
That's exactly what Wayne Rooney did, as he helped Manchester United to a smash-and-grab victory at Anfield in the Premier League.
In the aftermath, United manager Louis van Gaal said that now he thinks the Red Devils are still in the title chase. After all, they trail first-place Arsenal and Leicester City by only seven points.

Arsenal's middling 0-0 draw at Stoke didn't do much to move the needle, but the behaviour of Stoke fans did, as Arsene Wenger was furious that Aaron Ramsey was booed and taunted at the same ground where he suffered a horrible leg break in 2010.
