Liverpool vs. Manchester United

Arguably one of the biggest matches in world football, the clashes between Liverpool and Manchester United have been a staple of English football with a rivalry dating back to 1894.
The powerhouse clubs of the north-west have never seen eye to eye, and the inhabitants of both cities simply do not have any love for their near neighbours from across the M62.
As the country's most successful teams, with a combined total of eight Champions League trophies, the two outfits have seen better days than they are currently experiencing.
Liverpool have stepped into a brave new world, hiring the mercurial talents of Klopp, as the German looks for the perfect project that fits his skill set.

United turned to the experience of Van Gaal after ex-boss David Moyes' tenure was cut short by the Old Trafford board, but the Dutchman has failed to bring true success back to the Theatre of Dreams, often playing a turgid style of football to achieve points.
The Reds will draw level in the table with United if they win at home on Sunday, as Klopp looks to add the scalp of LVG's team to that of Chelsea and Manchester City.
The Dutch coach is likely to travel to the game with little ambition, knowing an embarrassing defeat could see his tenure evaporate in a similar fashion to Moyes. United have been overtly defensive for most of the campaign and have gained a modicum of success—briefly leading the league—but they have looked frail when trying to create and stretch play.

If Van Gaal's side look to attack Liverpool, it could cost them dearly, with Klopp's team clearly intent on scoring goals—and lots of them.
Liverpool are 10th in the Premier League form guide after their raucous 3-3 draw against Arsenal, but United are now down to 18th, with only one win in six. The disastrous set of results has seen United go from title challengers to Europa League misfits in only a few short weeks, and Van Gaal's time at the club stands close to extinction.
James Robson of the Manchester Evening News believes the derby could be a classic encounter:

Klopp has also watched his team suffer defensive woes during his short time on Merseyside, but he will be delighted with the recent form of Roberto Firmino, who shone against the Gunners.
The Brazil international scored twice as the Reds battled the league leaders, proving the attacker will be a vital member of the squad in the weeks ahead. The 24-year-old has three goals and three assists from his 12 Premier League starts, according to WhoScored.com, and these statistics are likely to swell during the second half of the campaign.

Despite being above Liverpool in the standings, it is the Red Devils who desperately need fortune on Sunday afternoon. United could fall as low as ninth with a heavy defeat against Klopp's outfit, and Van Gaal's job would be impossible to continue against the expected backlash.
United fans stuck with Moyes until the bitter end, when the board surprisingly disposed of his services after less than a year at the helm. However, the dissatisfaction from the Theatre of Dreams faithful has been audible at matches, and there could be a spectacular turn against Van Gaal if he falls at the feet of his former Bundesliga rival from Germany.
Prediction: Liverpool win 2-1
