Premier League Week 21 Fixtures: EPL TV Schedule, Live Stream and Picks

Christopher SimpsonJan 11, 2016

The Premier League's Week 21 schedule brings a sense of deja vu as Manchester City take on Everton in the second of three encounters with the Toffees in January, while Leicester City face Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Wednesday just three days after facing them in the FA Cup.

Elsewhere, Jurgen Klopp faces one of his toughest tests since his arrival in the hotseat at Anfield as Liverpool host Arsenal.

At the bottom of the table, Newcastle United and Aston Villa face tricky home ties against Manchester United and Crystal Palace respectively, while Sunderland travel to fellow strugglers Swansea City.

Newcastle United vs. Manchester United

Though the pair have produced plenty of exciting encounters throughout the Premier League era, one could easily be forgiven for expecting a tedious affair on Tuesday night as Newcastle welcome the Red Devils to St. James' Park.

The Magpies are wallowing in 18th place having lost their last four in all competitions, while United have hardly set the world alight either, per Squawka Football:

Louis van Gaal's side are fresh from a typically unconvincing 1-0 win over League One's Sheffield United in the FA Cup, which required a late Wayne Rooney penalty to decide. Football writer Liam Canning was scathing in his assessment of their performance:

Newcastle will be disappointed after yet another early exit in the competition, but despite being on the wrong end of four consecutive 1-0 defeats they have played reasonably well in that time but lacked the cutting edge to finish their chances.

The Chronicle's Lee Ryder highlighted their profligacy as a weakness in the defeat to Watford on Saturday:

If the Magpies can continue to create chances as they have been doing, they're likely to have the ball in net sooner or later—particularly in a televised game, in which they tend to play significantly better and earn demonstrably better results.

If there's any team who would struggle to punish a team for not taking their chances it's United, so it's possible Newcastle could scrape a valuable win here.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Leicester City

Tottenham and Leicester have been two of the most impressive teams in the Premier League this season—the former residing in fourth despite juggling commitments in the Europa League, and the latter in second after almost getting relegated last year. The pair have only lost twice apiece in this campaign.

The two sides met at White Hart Lane on Sunday and produced a typically thrilling encounter, in which the visitors were denied victory with a controversial late penalty.

Canning praised Spurs' style:

Former footballer Lou Macari hailed the Foxes' positive performance:

Indeed, Leicester have had much joy on the road this season as Squawka Football demonstrates:

The Foxes' ability to sit back and absorb pressure through N'Golo Kante and Gokhan Inler before countering at break-neck speed is perfectly suited to playing away from home, and the players will no doubt feel aggrieved after being denied a win in such controversial fashion.

Star striker Jamie Vardy is doubtful for the encounter following minor groin surgery. Per the Leicester Mercury, Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri said on Sunday: "Vardy is 50-50. Today he has trained with the physio and tomorrow he will do the warm-up and then Tuesday he will do the last training session. If he is okay he will play."

Even if Vardy is unable to return to the starting lineup, Riyad Mahrez will undoubtedly return after being rested for the FA Cup match, while Shinji Okazaki continued to prove his worth with a goal from the bench.

The game could easily go either way, but it would hardly be a surprise if Leicester claim the win they deserved on Sunday here.
