Maurice Clarett Cited for OVI: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction
According to Glenn McEntyre of 10TV in Columbus, Ohio, Ohio State Highway Patrol arrested former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett for allegedly operating a vehicle under the influence Sunday afternoon.
A patrol officer initially pulled Clarett over after he failed to signal during a lane change.
Clarett rose to prominence during the Buckeyes' national championship-winning 2002 season, running for 1,237 yards—a school record for a freshman—and 16 touchdowns. Following that impressive campaign, he unsuccessfully challenged the NFL's minimum draft age.
The Denver Broncos gambled on Clarett in the third round of the 2005 draft and subsequently cut him before he appeared in a preseason or regular-season game.
In 2006, he ran into legal trouble, first being charged with aggravated robbery in January. While awaiting trial for those charges, he led police on a high-speed chase in August. Authorities also found four loaded guns in Clarett's vehicle after pulling him over. He agreed to a plea deal in September 2006 that carried a minimum of a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence.
