Wiggins Becomes 6th-Youngest Player to Reach 2,000 Career Points

Bleacher Report MilestonesDec 29, 2015

Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Andrew Wiggins reached a milestone during Monday's 101-95 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, becoming the sixth-youngest player (20 years and 308 days) in NBA history to score 2,000 career points, per the Timberwolves' official twitter account.

The only players to hit the mark at a younger age were LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant, with Wiggins needing the fourth-fewest games (112) out of the six, per NBA.com.

James (92 games), Durant (97) and Anthony (97) all reached 2,000 points before their 100th games, whereas Howard (149) and Bryant (162) took much longer but had both entered the league as 18-year-olds.

Wiggins, the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, didn't play his first game until he'd already been 19 for nine months, putting him at a major disadvantage compared to the others.

He has partially made up ground due to his durability, playing in 112 out of a possible 113 games since getting drafted.

Wiggins has also benefited from having the green light to shoot, with his 16.8 field-goal attempts per game ranking 17th in the NBA this season. His scoring average (20.7 points) is tied for 16th, so while he hasn't been remarkably efficient, it's not as if he'll be letting up anytime soon.

Of course, there are still some issues that need to be sorted out, as his production in the non-scoring categories has been remarkably nonexistent for such a fantastic athlete, and his three-point shot just isn't NBA-quality yet.
