Twitter Not at All Surprised as Manchester United and Chelsea Draw 0-0

Tom WebbDec 28, 2015

Manchester United and Chelsea went into Monday's clash struggling in sixth and 16th place, respectively, leading to rival fans nicknaming the game "El Boringo."

Sure enough, an improved performance from Louis van Gaal's side wasn't enough to avoid a forgettable 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

Prior to the game, underperforming stars Wayne Rooney and Eden Hazard both returned to their sides' starting lineups:

The home side started brightly, Chelsea less so:

"

The United players have clearly turned against Van Gaal. They're trying to score with scant regard for possession stats

"

Chelsea so poor, making United look like Barcelona. And bear in mind this is the same United that made Stoke look like Barcelona 2 days ago.

"

If you need to find some form, play #CFC . The Premier League's most generous side. Giving everything away to United here.

The battle extended to the stands, where the two sets of fans were desperately trying to establish which club were worse:

"

"Thursday nights, Channel 5," chant the Chelsea fans in a crushing blow to BT Sport and ITV 4.

"

"Thursday nights, Channel Five!" sing Chelsea fans. "Going down, going down, going down!" retort United fans

"

“Champions of England - we’ll sing it ‘til May” chant #cfc fans.

The two goalkeepers were required to make a number of fine saves:

"

David de Gea is so good he could save Van Gaal.

Then Nemanja Matic missed a great chance for the Blues:

"

What a miss by Matic as Man Utd caught cold on the break - an utterly shocking finish with the keeper to beat.

"

Nemanja Matic taking no risks with his clearance there.

To the surprise of nobody, the match finished goalless:

"

Least surprising 0-0 ever.

— Chelsea Youth (@chelseayouth) December 28, 2015"
"

Two stunningly poor sides

— Robert Rea (@robertrea) December 28, 2015"

It was an improved performance from Manchester United, but the pressure remains on Van Gaal after an eighth game without a win.
