Louis van Gaal Reportedly Given Extra Security Before Manchester United-Chelsea
Manchester United will reportedly step up security surrounding manager Louis van Gaal for the clubโs next home game against Chelsea as pressure mounts on the Dutchman at Old Trafford.
Thatโs according to Neil Custis of the Sun, who noted that โextra mindersโ were drafted in around the dugout as the Red Devils lost in shock circumstances to Norwich City on Saturday with "real fears that home fans might have tried to get to the Dutchman" during the match.
โThe extra security will remain in place if Van Gaal is still in charge for Unitedโs next home match against Chelsea on Dec. 28,โ Custis added.

Thereโs been a noticeable swell of angst towards the Dutchman in recent weeks with Unitedโs results taking a nose dive.

Previously in the campaign, the Red Devils were grinding out wins to remain in the title race, making it easier to put up with the moribund style in which the team were playing. However, on the back of three consecutive defeats, including elimination from the Champions League and a drop outside the top four in the Premier League, the fans seem to have turned.
James Ducker of the Times commented on the toxic atmosphere at full time at Old Trafford after the Norwich result:
As Custis reported, the supporters inside Old Traffordย made their feelings known to the Dutchman during the long walk down the sidelines to the tunnel. But from the pictures on television, although itโs clear the fans are annoyed by the poor form, there seems to be little risk of the frustration manifesting itself in a physical way.

The Red Devils are likely being cautious. There is undeniable tension in the air at Old Trafford, and with Jose Mourinho now available and Pep Guardiolaย available at the end of the season, Van Gaalโs position has been scrutinised forensically.
Should United fall to defeat at Stoke City on Boxing Day, which is not beyond the realm of possibility, thereโs a fair chance we may see a different manager making that long walk to the dugout for the visit of the champions on Dec. 28 anyway.
