Bucks Reportedly Wavering on Potential Butler Deal
Tuesday, Dec. 29
ESPN's Marc Stein reported that while the Kings "remain committed" to trading Butler, the Milwaukee Bucks are "leaning against" a deal for the forward.
On Dec. 16, Stein reported the Kings have "promised" Butler they will move him to a team that has more available playing time on the wing. Additionally, Stein noted a trade "is expected after Christmas, if not sooner."
A deal makes plenty of sense for both sides. Sacramento is replete with depth on the wing, and it has to focus on doling out minutes to Ben McLemore, Marco Belinelli and Omri Casspi above all else. The Kings also have Seth Curry and James Anderson available to eat up minutes.
To date, Butler has appeared in just nine games and played an average of 10 minutes in those contests.
And while the Bucks have plenty of young talent on the perimeter in the form of Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo, they could stand to add a veteran like Butler, who played for the team as recently as 2014.
Butler hails from Racine, Wisconsin, so it would be fitting for him to head home and play the role of mentor for one of the Eastern Conference's up-and-coming squads. As Stein explained, the Bucks have a leadership void with Zaza Pachulia and Jared Dudley out of the picture.
