FWAA All-Americans 2015: Voting Results, Winners and Reaction
The College Football Playoff and bowl games are quickly approaching, but fans and writers are still reflecting on a memorable regular season.
Along those lines, Kevin McGuire of NBC Sports' College Football Talk passed along the Football Writers Association of America’s All-America first and second teams on Monday. Here is a look at the various first-team members:
It would be accurate to deem 2015 as the season of the running back, especially since Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey was a Heisman Trophy finalist and only made the first team as a kick returner. Florida State’s Dalvin Cook, LSU’s Leonard Fournette and Alabama’s Derrick Henry, who won the Heisman, made the first-team backfield instead of McCaffrey.
ESPN’s Bomani Jones weighed in on McCaffrey’s failure to win the Heisman, although the same argument could be made for Monday’s All-American announcement, considering Fournette and Henry made it over the Stanford star:
There was even plenty of running back talent on the second team, with Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott and Oregon’s Royce Freeman capturing the honors.
Clemson’s Deshaun Watson was the first-team quarterback, while Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield was the second-team representative. The two signal-callers are set to face off in the Orange Bowl with a spot in the national championship on the line.
The FWAA gave Watson the first-team nod, but both quarterbacks would likely rather have a victory on New Year’s Eve.
