Twitter Reacts to the Champions League Draw as Arsenal Are Paired with Barcelona

Joe GallagherDec 14, 2015

It's draw season, everybody, and once more the world is laughing at Arsenal.

Not 48 hours after the Euro 2016 draw on Saturday evening, everyone had to regather to see who the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea would face in the last 16 of the Champions League.

There was a sense of deja vu...

And just as it did with Scotland's absence from the draw for next year's tournament in France, the Internet had some fun at the expense of Manchester United.

One team who were in contention was Arsenal, whose great escape saw them through to the knockout phase with Bayern Munich, though their fans weren't expecting much in the way of luck.

Chatter was all about host Gianni Infantino as the formalities were being conducted.

And then the actual draw got underway with Wolfsburg and Gent the first pairing.

Real Madrid's tie against Roma was the first juicy contest thrown up. Benfica drew Zenit Saint Petersburg, Juventus were paired with Bayern and PSV Eindhoven were drawn alongside Atletico Madrid.

The first English club to come out of the draw was Chelsea, who were handed a rematch of last year's controversial round-of-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

And then came the news all Arsenal fans were dreading but expecting. Barcelona.

It was a rough draw even for some of the Gunners' staff.

In contrast, Manchester City were handed a favourable tie against Dynamo Kiev.

But unfortunately, none of their fans will be able to attend the fixture in Ukraine.

Still, though, it could've been worse...

Or even worse than that.
