EPL Results: Latest Table, Premier League Odds After Saturday's Week 16 Scores

Tim DanielsDec 12, 2015

Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League table, at least for one day, after a thrilling finish against Swansea City resulted in a 2-1 victory. Leicester City and Arsenal still have a chance to leapfrog them before the end of Matchday 16, though.

The entertaining final moments at Etihad Stadium were far from the only ones around the league throughout Saturday's matches. All six of the fixtures ended with either a one-goal victory or a draw, leading to plenty of tense moments.

Let's check out all of the updated information now that the dust has settled from a highly competitive day of play. The tables are followed by a recap of the action.

Saturday Recap

Everton let two more points slip out of their grasp in the day's early match. Romelu Lukaku gave the Toffees a quick lead against Norwich CIty, but the visitors couldn't convert any of their other chances. It left the door open for a second-half goal from Wes Hoolahan to earn the Canaries a draw.

It marked the fourth draw in the past five matches for Everton. Manager Roberto Martinez admitted afterward failing to capitalize on opportunities to grab more victories during the recent stretch is an issue that must be addressed, as relayed by the club's official site.

"In terms of performance, it was very similar to Monday night. It's a dominant performance that deserved victory but we have now dropped four points and that's where we need to grow quickly," Martinez said. "We have to turn these draws into wins."

Manchester City came within a few minutes of feeling similar disappointment against Swansea City.

Wilfried Bony scored shortly before the half-hour mark to give City a lead they would hold for the majority of the match. A strike by Bafetimbi Gomis in the 90th minute brought the Swans back level in their first match since Garry Monk got sacked.

Yaya Toure saved the day in stoppage time, however, creating space and unleashing a shot that deflected off Kelechi Iheanacho and into the corner of the net.

Though he didn't get credit for the goal, it capped a terrific day for the midfielder, as WhoScored.com highlighted:

The Sky Blues' local rivals Manchester United weren't as fortunate in their clash with Bournemouth.

Junior Stanislas scored just two minutes into the match directly from a corner for the suddenly in-form Cherries, who knocked off Chelsea last week. Marouane Fellaini equalized for the Red Devils, but it wasn't enough as Josh King went on to net the winner for the home side.

Darren Rovell of ESPN passed along a fun fact after the unheralded club's latest triumph:

The day's other three games featured just two combined goals.

Yohan Cabaye scored to earn all three points for Crystal Palace against Southampton. Watford emerged with an away victory over Sunderland courtesy of a Odion Ighalo tally. And West Ham United played to a scoreless draw with Stoke City, which didn't come as much of a surprise.

Hopefully the rest of the clashes in Matchday 16 live up to a higher standard. Arsenal (at Aston Villa), Tottenham Hotspur (vs. Newcastle United) and Liverpool (vs. West Bromwich Albion) are all in action Sunday before the unexpected contenders from Leicester look to make a statement against Chelsea on Monday.

Given the number of teams hopeful of clinching a spot in next year's UEFA Champions League still to play, expect a few more shakeups in the table before Week 16 comes to a close.
