Twitter Reacts as Bournemouth Defeat Manchester United 2-1 in Premier League

Joe GallagherDec 12, 2015

It was fair to say both clubs' fans came into Manchester United's trip to play Bournemouth with differing emotions.

The Cherries were coming off their historic victory at Stamford Bridge a week earlier, while Manchester United had responded to criticism about their goalscoring by managing to find the net twice in midweek, albeit being eliminated from the Champions League in the process.

The Red Devils were there for the taking, perhaps.

It seemed so when Junior Stanislas scored in the second minute directly from a corner.

United fans found themselves in the unusual position of having to criticise one of their few consistent performers this term:

And the internet was not kind to them:

To their credit, they were level before half-time, after Marouane Fellaini bundled the ball across the line to put Louis van Gaal's side on terms again.

Ten minutes into the second half, the home side found themselves in front again when Josh King stabbed home to the delight of the home supporters.

It was painful viewing for the visitors, whose injury-depleted back four were struggling.

If United fans thought they could switch over to another channel to avoid the pain, they were mistaken...

...so instead they just started hurling abuse at the manager:

Let's check in on Chicharito, shall we?

Van Gaal's side looked bereft of ideas as the game wore on, and Bournemouth could have added to the lead before full-time.

In the end, they held on to win 2-1 and pick up a vital three points that moves them—provisionally, at least—above Chelsea on the league table.

For Manchester United, who remain at least three points from the summit, it's not looking so pretty.
