Rob BlanchetteDec 11, 2015

Getafe played out a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Friday, with the visitors dominating the best chances in the second half.

Pablo Sarabia gave the hosts the lead in the opening moments of the second half, but a controversial strike from Imanol Agirretxe levelled the score.

The result leaves both sides rooted to the bottom half of the table only a handful of points above the danger zone.

Sociedad Grab Draw with Controversial Strike

GETAFE, SPAIN - DECEMBER 11: Imanol Agirretxe of Real Sociedad beats Vicente Guaita of Getafe to score his team's opening goal during the La Liga match between Getafe CF and Real Sociedad de Futbol at Coliseum Alfonso Perez stadium on December 11, 2015

Getafe will be licking their wounds after Friday's encounter with Real Sociedad but were themselves lucky to escape with a point against their stronger and more creative opponents.

In a largely uninspiring first half, the hosts had the best chance to take the lead through Sarabia, who saw his shot saved after Angel Lafita headed the ball into his path.

Agirretxe missed a great opportunity for Sociedad as the half came to a close, but the striker fluffed his lines and failed to trouble the goalkeeper.

Bruma also went close for the visitors as the clock ticked down to half-time, and it appeared the Basque team were in the ascendancy.

However, La Real were shocked just 60 second after the restart, as Getafe took the lead through Sarabia.

The former Real Madrid attacking midfielder arrived first at the near post, allowing Sarabia to head his effort into the top corner from close range.

It was the No. 10's second goal of the La Liga season, according to WhoScored.com.

The home side were disappointed to lose their advantage just after the hour mark, as Agirretxe reacted to score.

Getafe were aggrieved as Sociedad equalised, claiming for offside as a number of attackers poured into the box. Jonathas gave the assist as he headed toward the far post, but the linesman missed a clear offside as Agirretxe converted. Diego Reyes was advanced from the last defender and affected the goalkeeper's decision-making, allowing his team-mate to score.

The yellow cards began to fly from the referee's pocket as Getafe players became incensed, and the incident clearly affected their morale and work.

Sociedad had recovered their territorial advantage from the first half as they searched for a winner and almost took the lead through Jonathas. However, the player saw his header saved by stopper Vicente Guaita, who was in great form on the night, adding relief for his side.

The match opened up in the final 10 minutes, as the hosts attempted to upset La Real. However, every Getafe attack was met with a counter, as the game finished on a frantic note.

The score ended 1-1 as the teams shared the spoils, but both sides could find themselves lower in La Liga at the end of the weekend.

Sociedad were the slightly better team on the night, but a draw was a fair result considering the nature of the equaliser.

The Basque team created more than Getafe and appeared to have the wind in their sails late in the match, but a narrow defeat would have been harsh on the hosts on Friday night.
