This Tigres domination has not been anything new. Tom Marshall from ESPN FC detailed just how much in control Tigres has been for the last four matches:
It didn't take long for Tigres to establish full control of the match. Andre-Pierre Gignac converted a penalty kick towards the top center of the net to give Tigres an early 1-0 lead. Javier Cortes committed the blatant foul in the 13th minute of the match.
Tigres established its pace early on. It held possession of the ball for 62 percent of the match and only allowed seven shots. But when Tigres got a chance at the net, it took advantage. Javier Aquino scored from the left side and connected his shot to the top right corner.
Cesar Hernandez of ESPN FC was surprised that he was able to get that shot to go:
Tigres' defense and counterattacking ability were on full display in this match. Whenever it seemed Pumas was able to find a spot through the Tigres defense, Tigres responded in a huge way.
Marshall took a liking to the play of Tigres in that stellar first half:
Rafael Sobis put the nail in the coffin with the third goal of the night for Tigres with a goal from his left foot to the center box and for a 3-0 lead. It was at this point that Pumas were prepared to get ready for the second leg, according to Hernandez:
This was about as dominant of a victory as one could ask, especially for Tigres. Although it's been very good at defense and goalkeeping for the last few games, coming into a championship aggregate and shutting out the opponent in the first game could not have been a better start for Tigres.
The second leg is slated for Sunday at 9:30 p.m. ET. Although Pumas will host the second leg, it's going to need to play flawless soccer by scoring three goals and pitching a shutout.
Tigres' goal was to come out strong and be comfortable before becoming visitors. It's done that and is now in good shape to win the final. It would take more than an epic collapse for any inconceivable Pumas win to take place.
