Ole Miss Athletic Director Confirms Extension Negotiations are Underway
Thursday, Dec. 10
Ross Bjork, Ole Miss' athletic director, confirmed to reporters Thursday that the school is in talks to once again extend Freeze's contract to the maximum four years allowed by state law.
“That’s a given," Bjork confirmed, per Parrish Alford of the Daily Journal. "Then we’re looking at some other pieces to that. Does that include a base salary increase, or does that include other incentives we can provide? Nothing’s final, but we’re having those conversations right now to get to that point."
Freeze, 46, is 33-18 in his fourth season with the program. The school has won nine games in consecutive years and earned a berth in this year's Sugar Bowl.
Last December, Freeze signed a contract extension through 2018 that paid him $4.3 million per year and also increased the salary pool for assistant coaches. It sounds as though Ole Miss is committed to him for the long haul and won't hesitate to spend the necessary money to keep him happy and help him build a winning program.
“I look at it from a standpoint of what can we do to grow the program?” Bjork said. “Do we have the right people? If we have the right people we’ll find a way to make it work. We’ve decided that athletics is important here, and we’re in the game at the highest level.”
