Sunday Recap

Villarreal are now just one point off the top four in La Liga following their narrow victory in Week 14.

They went behind just before half-time when Jozabed rifled a fine finish into the top corner from just outside the penalty area.

The visitors continued to dominate possession after the break, but it was the Yellow Submarine who found the next goal. Bakambu netted his first in the 69th minute after a beautifully weighted pass from Roberto Soldado.

Denis Suarez was then the architect for the winner four minutes from time as he crossed from the byline to set up Bakambu's second at the near post, per Sport's Samuel Marsden:

Real Sociedad were behind in the fourth minute of their match at the Anoeta Stadium, as striker Borja finished impressively to put Eibar ahead.

However, Agirretxe found the equaliser in the 10th minute and then tapped home the winner in the final moments to seal La Real's second league win in three matches.

With 11 goals for the season, Agirretxe sits behind only Luis Suarez and Neymar in La Liga's scoring charts, and few goals were more important than his Sunday double, per WhoScored.com.

Sanabria's treble was the difference for Sporting Gijon as they beat Las Palmas to move five points clear of the relegation zone.

The 19-year-old Roma loanee found his first after 17 minutes, only for Nabil El Zhar to level things up before the break.

Sanabria then met Jony's cross with a diving header to re-establish Sporting's lead 12 minutes from time and completed the hat-trick six minutes later.

Per Opta, Sanabria's contribution is perhaps an indication of great things to come from the youngster:

Athletic were forced to play with 10 men for 70 minutes in their clash with Malaga after Mikel San Jose was sent off.

The fourth official spotted the Spaniard's off-the-ball push, and while a red card was arguably harsh, there was no need for San Jose's indiscipline, per AS:

As a result, Athletic were forced to play within themselves slightly.

Both teams had their chances, but the match eventually petered out to a 0-0 draw. Malaga remain without a La Liga goal away from home this season.
