Manchester United U21s vs. Liverpool U21s: Date, Time, Live Stream and TV Info

Tom SunderlandNov 30, 2015

Manchester United under-21s play host to their Liverpool counterparts on Monday evening, hoping to give their 2015-16 title defence a much-needed boost.

The Red Devils enter Monday's encounter 10th in Division 1 after having played just four games, while their Merseyside guests are even more desperate for a win following a record of one victory in their first seven games.

Liverpool are stuck at the bottom of the standings and are without a win in their last three games, scoring just seven times this season and struggling to put together anything close to consistent form.

Youth Giants Seeking Swift Turnaround

It's an odd sight to see Manchester United and Liverpool come into Monday's fixture quite so far down the under-21 Premier League pecking order after finishing first and second last season, respectively.

Both teams lost in their most recent league outings—United suffered a 2-0 defeat in their trip to Norwich City, while the Merseysiders were subjected to a 4-0 demolition at the hands of Chelsea's youngsters:

That defeat to the Canaries saw Nick Powell make his return to the United under-21s lineup after missing three months following knee surgery, and the midfielder could continue his recovery with an outing against Liverpool.

First-team Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also confirmed Jordan Rossiter could be handed a chance to impress against United following a period on the sidelines, recently telling the official Liverpool website:

"

Jordan Rossiter is not that far away but he is a young lad. I have seen him three times in training; he looks good and everything is OK but usually we should give him time, minute by minute to play more and more and more. There is an opportunity on Monday night with the U21s.

"

It's perhaps worth relaying how much senior talent each team can afford to lend their under-21s. Senior team managers Louis van Gaal and Klopp are under great pressure to produce results, and they may not be too inclined to make full use of rules allowing their under-21s to field three outfield players over that age.

However, the Red Devils can afford to be more relaxed in their approach, considering they've played five games fewer than league leaders Sunderland. The Manchester Evening News has pointed this out as a serious problem in the division's format:

Warren Joyce's men would be top of the standings were they to win those five games in hand, hypothetically speaking, and victory over fierce rivals Liverpool would assuredly provide a jolt in team morale.

The situation is considerably more dire for Michael Beale's men, however, after claiming just five points from their first seven games, and even a win on Monday may only be sufficient to push them up to ninth.

Liverpool received a timely boost last week, when they defeated Sunderland 4-3 in the Premier League Cup, although that extra-time victory still didn't come without its shaky moments.

Scoring goals has been the main concern for both teams thus far, producing only 12 between them in their 11 combined outings, but this week's collision will give players all the motivation they need to set the season back on track.
