Recap
Barcelona relied on the most awesome three-man forward line in the game. Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi were both on the scoresheet, while Neymar Jr. added a brace at the Camp Nou.
Messi's goal is a welcome sight following the pocket-edition Argentinian goal-getter's prolonged injury absence. However, Barca never missed their best player because of the way Suarez and Neymar have been tormenting defences.
The two have been so prolific they are now dominating the La Liga scoring charts. At this rate, one member of this free-scoring duo has the chance to break a recent trend, according to OptaJose:
Neymar's contributions, both in front of goal and as a provider, have fuelled Barca's title charge. Squawka detailed the impressive figures:
With Neymar and Suarez playing good enough to match Messi's brilliance, manager Luis Enrique's team is going to be impossible to stop in forward areas.
But while Enrique has the luxury of counting on three world-class match-winners, Atleti just have the one. Fortunately, gifted Frenchman Antoine Griezmann doesn't look as though he's about to stop scoring any time soon.
The former Sociedad star struck again to down Espanyol. Griezmann's movement is the best in Europe. But he's also developed his game as a finisher. As dangerous in the air as he is on the ground, the 24-year-old is now one of football's most complete and feared forwards.
But another Griezmann-inspired three points came at a cost for manager Diego Simeone's team. Atleti lost veteran holding midfielder Tiago to injury.
The Guardian's Sid Lowe detailed the problem and its significance:
As an experienced and savvy defensive presence, Tiago is the foundation of a tough and resourceful midfield. He's also a vital shield for Atleti's miserly defence.
His absence will show in the big games.
Malaga wasted goals from Charles and Pablo Fornals at home to Granada. Midfielder Fernando Tissone saw red in between those goals. Eventually, the visitors made their numbers advantage count.
Striker Youssef El-Arabi and former Blackburn Rovers forward Ruben Rochina clinched a welcome point that lifted Granada out of the bottom three. It also sent Malaga tumbling to the La Liga basement.
In the process, El-Arabi and Rochina helped expose a rare Malaga weakness:
A David Simon own goal unhinged Las Palmas at home to Deportivo. With 34-year-old schemer Cani probing in midfield, the away side kept the ball well against a home team that is usually accomplished in possession.
Captain Alex Bergantinos was also an influential figure in the middle, and Lucas clinched the points in stoppage time.
The result has put Deportivo on the cusp of the top four. Their local rival, Celta, are already there. Skilled Chilean winger Fabian Orellana put them in front at home to Sporting Gijon.

But bright, young striker Carlos Castro Garcia came off the bench to get Gijon back on terms. Iago Aspas and Nolito pressed the issue for Celta, regularly tormenting the Sporting defence.
It was in-form man Nolito who eventually struck to wrap up three priceless points for Vigo. The club's bid for a top-four finish is now looking credible.
Speaking of credible, that's just what Barca's chances of repeating look like. Their firepower is too potent for any team in the division to contain.
