Bayern Munich vs. Olympiakos: Winners and Losers from Champions League
Bayern Munich secured first place in Group F on Tuesday as they downed Olympiakos 4-0 at the Allianz Arena in the UEFA Champions League.
Douglas Costa, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller scored a goal each in a 12-minute span in the first half to open up the gap on the Greek side.
Kingsley Coman, who may have been the best attacking threat for Bayern all night, found the back of the net in the 70th minute to finish off the scoring.
Despite leaving the match with four goals and the No. 1 spot in the group, Bayern faced a few issues as Holger Badstuber was sent off in the 53rd minute and Arjen Robben went off injured in the first half.
Here's a look at our winners and losers from Bayern's win over Olympiakos.
Winner: Kingsley Coman
1 of 5
Kingsley Coman was a dynamic force in the final third for Bayern Munich for the majority of the match at the Allianz Arena.
The highlight of the Frenchman's night came in the 70th minute as he nodded home a Thomas Muller header before Roberto clattered into the player's noggin.
Before finding a personal breakthrough halfway through the second half, Coman created countless opportunities on the wings and found plenty of space in the Olympiakos defense.
With yet another star player working well in the Bayern attack, it is hard to think anyone will stop them on their road to the Champions League final at the moment.
Loser: Roberto
2 of 5
Roberto helped Bayern start their first-half onslaught as he sent a rebound straight into the path of Douglas Costa in the eighth minute.
The Spanish netminder made a solid save on Jerome Boateng's effort from distance, but he sent the remnants of his denial right in the direction of the Brazilian.
Without hesitation, Costa made a quick move and slotted Bayern's first goal into the right side of the net. Once the floodgates opened, goals flew in at a rapid pace as Robert Lewandowski and Muller got in on the fun in the first 20 minutes.
The four-goal loss kept Olympiakos in second place in Group F, but they now need a draw or win over Arsenal on Matchday 6 to qualify for the knockout round.
Winner: Thomas Muller
3 of 5
Thomas Muller hit an impressive milestone on Tuesday thanks to the Bayern victory. Muller became the youngest player in Champions League history to reach 50 wins, per Cristian Nyari of FC Bayern USA.
Muller played a key role in earning the achievement as he scored one of the four Bayern goals in the 20th minute. The German tapped in a shot from close range after Arjen Robben played a beautiful ball over from the right wing.
The Germany international also broke loose on a few occasions in the second half, but he was unable to score a second. Muller came closest to earning a brace in the 91st minute as he struck the left post on a breakaway attempt.
With Muller and the other attackers in the Bayern lineup firing on all cylinders, they should be able to go to Croatia in two weeks and earn their fifth win of the competition over Dinamo Zagreb.
Loser: Holger Badstuber
4 of 5
Tuesday was supposed to be a happy day for Holger Badstuber as he earned his first start since April in defense.
But that feeling lasted only 52 minutes before he found himself in a precarious situation. With Brown Ideye surging toward goal, Badstuber pulled down the former West Bromwich Albion man and picked up a red card.
The ejection was the last thing Badstuber wanted to earn in a game where he had the chance to show coach Pep Guardiola what he could bring to the starting XI.
Instead of impressing, Badstuber left the pitch dejected in the 53rd minute. Based off his actions on Tuesday, we may not see him back in the starting lineup soon.
Winner: Robert Lewandowski
5 of 5
Robert Lewandowski just can't stop scoring.
The Poland international scored his 19th goal for Bayern this season in the 16th minute as he accidentally stepped in front of a Coman shot before firing his own into the back of the net.
The strike was the fifth of the season in the Champions League for Lewandowski, who is level with Muller and Cristiano Ronaldo atop the scoring chart.
Lewandowski may have had a few more chances to score in the second half, but he was sacrificed for Mehdi Benatia after the Badstuber red card.
With Bayern and Barcelona both going off on their respective opponents on Tuesday, one has to ask if we're set for the two sides to be on a collision course for the final.
