Wales vs. Netherlands: Team News, Preview, Live Stream and TV Info

Rob BlanchetteNov 12, 2015

Triumphant Wales prepare for the UEFA Euro 2016 finals with the visit of the Netherlands, who were ignominiously dumped out of the competition at the group stage.

The hosts will be without superstar forward Gareth Bale, as confirmed by BBC Sport. Manager Chris Coleman will look to ring the changes ahead of the major finals in France.

Over the years the Netherlands have become mainstays at international tournaments, but the team who finished third at the 2014 World Cup will be surprisingly missing from the Euros after failing to qualify.

Match Preview

CARDIFF, WALES - OCTOBER 13: Chris Coleman manager of Wales celebrates with players as Aaron Ramsey scores their first goal during the UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group B match between Wales and Andorra at Cardiff City Stadium on October 13, 2015 in Cardif

Wales will have an unfamiliar look at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday night, as they are missing four of their primary forwards as well as an influential midfielder.

BBC Sport reported Bale, Hal Robson-Kanu, Sam Vokes and David Cotterill will all miss out along with Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey, who is injured. Walsall striker Tom Bradshaw is in line for a debut for the hosts, and Leicester City's Tom Lawrence could also make a first start for his country.

You would have been forgiven for thinking 12 months ago this game would be a preparation match for the Dutch as they stride forward to another tournament, but the roles have reversed after Bale led his team to glory in Group B.

CARDIFF, WALES - NOVEMBER 12: Netherlands player Arjen Robben (r) shares a joke with Wesley Sneijder (2nd r) during the Netherlands training session ahead of their friendly international against Wales at Cardiff City Stadium on November 12, 2015 in Cardi

Wales finished with 21 points from their 10 games, achieving second place in the group and attaining qualification. The Netherlands slumped in Group A, collecting only four victories during their campaign as the likes of the Czech Republic, Iceland and Turkey all finished with better records.

Euro 2016 is the first competition Wales have qualified for since the 1958 World Cup, and they will be hoping it is not another 58 years before they experience such festivities again.

Despite their fall from grace, the Dutch will offer Wales a solid test in their preparations to step up a gear in the months ahead, readying themselves for duels with Europe's best nations.

Coleman said his team would treat the match as a tournament fixture, ignoring the friendly tag attached to the game, per BBC Sport:

"

People use that word 'friendly' but I'm not sure they really exist.

We're playing a top-level game of football, so we're going to go into it and perform like we have done for a considerable amount of time.

We're up against good opposition. The fact they didn't qualify [for Euro 2016] and they're almost rebuilding, they're going to be a wounded animal and a dangerous one at that.

The Welsh have not defeated the Dutch in the past, losing seven on the bounce against the Oranje. The hosts have only found the back of the net on three occasions, with the Dutch plundering 21 goals in response.

However, with Wales missing so many of their best players the Netherlands have a good chance of claiming a positive result in Cardiff.

Coach Danny Blind initially left Manchester United winger Memphis Depay out. However, the winger is a late addition to the squad, but veteran Robin van Persie misses out as Arjen Robben returns after injury, as reported by BBC Sport.

The Bayern Munich attacker will be the one world-class player on show on Friday, and his presence could be the difference between the nations.

There will be a party atmosphere at the stadium in Cardiff as the teams battle, but with the Dutch in the mood to rebuild, it might not be the joyous night the home fans crave.
