Fantasy Football Week 7: Examining Trade Value for This Year's Top 100 Players

Timothy RappOct 22, 2015

Let's be frank—if your fantasy team has stunk to this point, you don't have much time left to recover and make a playoff push. Now is the time to improve, meaning you need to nail every waiver selection and, even more importantly, you need to win some trades.

I can help with the latter part. Below, we'll take a look at my updated trade value chart along with breaking down a few players you can either sell high on or potentially buy low.

Matt Camp's Trade Advice

Analysis

If you're an Andy Dalton owner, a couple of things are probably true.

You probably didn't draft him to be your starter this year, meaning you have another very nice option sitting on the bench. You probably aren't fully convinced that Dalton's streak of elite performances will last, or that he'll finish the season atop the quarterback position. And there is probably another owner desperate for quarterback help in your league, while you could use some cover at a different position.

All of the above makes Dalton an interesting sell-high option. While it might be tough to deal him during his bye week—and while I think Dalton will remain a QB1 this season, though perhaps not a top-five player at the position—there could be an owner willing to sell the farm to land him.

Let's look at what you might be able to get in return for the red-hot quarterback:

  • Mark Ingram
  • Emmanuel Sanders
  • Latavius Murray and Pierre Garcon
  • Gary Barnidge and Danny Woodhead

Some of those deals might even be selling yourself a bit low, though if you are convinced that Dalton might cool off a bit, now's the time to strike. Personally, I'd advise holding onto Dalton unless you have another quarterback you feel is in the top-five category. He has a wealth of weapons on offense, and the Cincinnati Bengals seemed to have found a system that best accentuates his talent.

But Dalton's value may have peaked before his bye, so I wouldn't blame you for selling high.

A lot of folks have worried that if Cam Newton began running less, his fantasy value would take a nosedive. Well, Newton is still running—he's on pace to rush for 720 yards and nine touchdowns—but he also looked excellent throwing the ball late in his team's comeback win against the Seattle Seahawks last week.

Not bad for a guy with no wide receivers, right?

If you drafted Newton late, you got yourself a steal. His struggles from last year seem to be a distant memory, and your chance to buy low on him has probably passed.

One player I think you can buy low on is Andrew Luck. He's about to heat up, folks, so now is the time to strike.

Speaking of the Indianapolis Colts, Matt Camp recommended taking a look at running back Frank Gore. You can probably get him for fairly cheap, after all. Here are some of the deals you might dangle to land the veteran:

  • Jason Witten and Tyrod Taylor
  • Eli Manning and Jordan Cameron
  • Brandin Cooks and Martellus Bennett
  • Jeremy Maclin

Those are pretty cheap deals for a potential RB2 going forward.

Here's a name to remember: Stefon Diggs. The rookie has 13 receptions for 216 yards on 19 targets in the past two weeks and looks as though he's earned the starting gig that was once occupied by Charles Johnson. Diggs was a playmaker in college, though injuries hampered him during his time at Maryland.

Pick him up on waivers now and stash him as a potential sleeper or as a future trade chip. If he can stay healthy, Diggs has the sort of explosive talent to become one of the biggest surprises in fantasy down the stretch.
