Daily Fantasy Football Week 7: DraftKings Sleepers and Top Value Plays

Steven CookOct 21, 2015

Finding the right sleepers and high-value picks at cheap salaries in DraftKings is the difference between big winnings and daily fantasy heartbreak.

That phenomenon is undoubtedly justified again in Week 7, with a handful of players at low salaries who are capable of going off for big fantasy totals. As the likes of Josh McCown, Dion Lewis and Doug Martin have shown already, it doesn't take a crippling price tag to produce numbers.

With another weekend of NFL action on the cards, let's look closer into the best sleeper plays for Week 7.

Top Sleepers and Value Plays

Landry Jones, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers ($5,100)

The Pittsburgh Steelers were obviously trying to keep Landry Jones from the field this season when they signed Mike Vick and made him the starter after Ben Roethlisberger's injury. That looked like a foolish decision after Jones broke out Sunday against one of the NFL's top defenses.

Fit with a couple of nice touchdown passes to Martavis Bryant, Jones led the Steelers offense to productive drives and put stats on the board, as NFL Network showed:

With some of the league's most dangerous offensive weapons at his disposal, Jones will continue his blistering play against the Kansas City Chiefs. Their secondary has been hapless this season, allowing the league's most DK points to quarterbacks.

Frank Gore, RB, Indianapolis Colts ($4,900)

Even with the Indianapolis Colts offensive line unable to stop a nosebleed against New England, Frank Gore still dazzled, taking his 13 carries for 78 yards. He would've had more, if the Patriots didn't get out to a lead that forced Andrew Luck's hand.

After two performances under seven DK points to start the season, Gore is tearing it up lately, averaging over 15 DK points in his last four games. He's gotten at least 13 carries in each of the last five games and should emerge against a Saints defense that ranks third-worst in the league against the run.

Shane Vereen, RB, New York Giants ($4,300)

Shane Vereen has been hit-or-miss in daily fantasy throughout his first action with the New York Giants. But when he's hitting, he's among the best values in all of daily fantasy.

Vereen put up practically nothing on Monday night against the Eagles, but that was largely due to the offense getting into a big hole. The game before, he broke off for 25 DK points against the 49ers.

With eight receptions in two different games this season, Vereen's PPR production will make him a breakout candidate for Week 7.

Stefon Diggs, WR, Minnesota Vikings ($4,200)

The Minnesota Vikings have needed a receiver to break out, as Mike Wallace and Charles Johnson haven't done so. In his first career start, Stefon Diggs emerged as that guy for Teddy Bridgewater.

Diggs caught seven balls for 129 yards in that game, a win over the Kansas City Chiefs. He preceded that with a six-catch performance, proving he'll get the volume of targets to make a big day possible.

The Vikings face a Detroit Lions defense that struggles mightily against receivers, ranking 26th in points conceded to that position on DraftKings.

Jamison Crowder, WR, Washington Redskins ($3,700)

The Washington Redskins passing attack is a bit of a mess, but one pleasant surprise has been the emergence of Jamison Crowder.

With Pierre Garcon getting a heap of attention and DeSean Jackson injured, Crowder has stepped up in a big way. He had a three-game stretch of double-digit points before putting up eight in Week 6, but he is getting  the ball plenty, with 27 receptions.

Head coach Jay Gruden has lauded Crowder's play, per the team's Twitter:

Kirk Cousins continues to show improved chemistry with Crowder, which should allow him to put up good numbers against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers secondary that has only one formidable cornerback in Alterraun Verner.

Ladarius Green, TE, San Diego Chargers ($2,900)

The return of Antonio Gates was supposed to take away the sudden fantasy relevance of fellow tight end Ladarius Green. Instead, it's only made him more affordable and more of a value pick.

While Gates has surpassed the 90-yard mark in his two games this season, Green hasn't exactly fallen off in his place. He caught five balls for 50 yards (10 DK points) in Week 5, before catching a touchdown pass against Green Bay last week.

The Oakland Raiders have gotten gashed by tight ends all season, ranking lowest in the league in allowing DK points to that position.
