Djokovic, Nadal Up and Running

In his first outing since a triumphant display at the US Open, Djokovic was a confident winner against Bolelli, who has been in decent form himself as of late.
The imposing Serb took the match 6-1, 6-1, showcasing the kind of durability, power and accuracy that have earned him three of the four Grand Slam titles in 2015. Now it seems as though Djokovic is intent on building momentum ahead of the ATP Tour Finals in London, another title he is looking to defend.
Live Tennis paid tribute to Novak after his superb start to the match:

After a disappointing exit early on at Flushing Meadows, Nadal will be hoping to end what has been an underwhelming year on a high. This clash with Wu was a match he was always the big favourite to win, but with the Beijing crowd backing their countryman, it could have been a potential banana skin for the 14-time Grand Slam champion.

Encouragingly for Nadal, he came through this one with confidence, showing both quality and determination against the world No. 230 in a 6-4, 6-4 win. Still, there are areas of the Spaniard's game that look a little out of sorts, most notably his serve, which was poor throughout the match.
As noted here by ByTheMin Tennis, it was an excellent effort from Wu when you consider the chasm in class between the two players:
The women’s draw continued to thrill at this tournament, with Pennetta enduring a scare in her Round 2 match against Teliana Pereira.
Pereira roared out of the blocks in this once to take the opening stanza 6-3 and given Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova—seeded first and second, respectively—were dumped out earlier in the week, there were thoughts of another potential upset.

But the US Open champion eventually recovered, bouncing back emphatically to win the second set 6-0, before wrapping the match up 6-4 in the decider. Here’s a look at a superb return from the Italian that forced the deciding set, per WTA:
Wozniacki was much more comfortable in her clash, although she did have to withstand some early hitting from qualifier Qiang Wang. Eventually, after an even opening 10 games, the Dane upped her levels with the end of the first set in sight, taking it 7-5. It was clear Wang’s will was broken at this point, allowing Wozniacki to race to a 6-0 scoreline in the second.

As we can see, the eighth seed has been enjoying herself with some other high-profile names since arriving in the Chinese capital:
Djokovic looks like the man to beat once again in China and it’s clear he loves playing on these hard courts. Many will be hoping for Nadal to up his levels in the matches to come and potentially pose a challenge to the Serb, but at the moment the Spaniard is lacking some of his synonymous spark.
The women’s singles is much less straightforward, with plenty of players in the draw in with a real chance. But there’s a determination about Pennetta, and after her recent win at the US Open, she’s going to be a very difficult player to get the better of in Beijing.
