Bernard Tomic Trespassing, Resisting Arrest Charges Dropped
Prosecutors reportedly dropped the charges tennis player Bernard Tomic faced from a July incident in Miami.
According to an Associated Press report (h/t ESPN.com) that referenced Australian media reports, Tomic was charged in July “with resisting a police officer and trespassing after being accused of playing loud music in his hotel suite in Miami Beach.”
The Australian tennis player also allegedly ignored police requests to leave the hotel, although Tomic’s U.S. lawyer, according to the Australian Associated Press, claimed the charges were inconsistent with hotel security reports. Prosecutors dismissed the case Wednesday.
The Associated Press report also noted this was not the 22-year-old’s first run-in with the police. His driver's license was taken in 2013 after a second speeding issue, and he was also placed under investigation “after an alleged brawl in a Gold Coast apartment spa.”
Despite the off-court issues, Tomic is in the midst of an impressive season and is ranked No. 21, according to ATPWorldTour.com. He reached the top 20 for the first time in his career earlier this year and won the Claro Open for the second straight season. Tomic reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and the third round of the U.S. Open and Wimbledon.
