Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Injury: Updates on Hornets Guard's Shoulder and Return
The Hornets announced on Tuesday Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had successful surgery for a torn labrum in his right shoulder suffered during the team's preseason opener against the Orlando Magic on Oct. 3.
The team added the typical recovery time for the surgery is six months.
The Associated Press (h/t NBA.com) noted that Kidd-Gilchrist "was curling off a screen late in the second quarter when he tumbled to the ground after absorbing a foul by a Magic player." The guard got up holding his right shoulder before going to the locker room. Kidd-Gilchrist eventually left the locker room on a stretcher, according to Mary Stevens of Basketball Insiders.

Latest Ailment Adds to Kidd-Gilchrist's History of Injuries
Kidd-Gilchrist has struggled to stay on the court over the first three seasons of his career. Last season, he recorded a career-high 10.9 points per game but was limited to 55 games because of injury.
Coming into the season, the guard was hoping for a bounce-back campaign after a disappointing 2014-15 and an offseason rebuild, as he told Larry Berger of USA Today.
"I have very high expectations for myself and for the team," Kidd-Gilchrist said. "We've got a whole new team. We have all the tools; we just have to make it all work."
With Kidd-Gilchrist out, Marvin Williams and PJ Hairston will see an increase in playing time while he recovers.
