Alexis Sanchez, 17 points
It's taken him a while to get going, but Alexis Sanchez needed one goal for the floodgates to open at Leicester City. The Arsenal forward tore the Foxes apart.
His trio of goals put Chilean star Sanchez into some select company in Premier League annals, according to OptaJoe:
Against Leicester, Sanchez was a terror on the break. Combining with the equally fleet-of-foot Theo Walcott, he gave the Gunners terrific speed on the counter, pace the hosts just couldn't cope with.
The Walcott and Sanchez combination is an intriguing one. When the England international plays through the middle, there's a lot more fluidity to Sanchez's game. He drifts off the left flank and often takes up excellent positions in central areas to supplement a player with the same quickness and similar movement.
By contrast, when Sanchez is asked to support towering target man Olivier Giroud, he tends to stick too rigidly to his position out wide on the left. Arsenal play a better game when the team's best player roams with more freedom.
The variety of his goals endorsed Sanchez's quality. He tapped in after being teed up by Hector Bellerin, headed home a Mesut Ozil cross and thundered in a long-range strike to complete his hat-trick.
Afterwards, manager Arsene Wenger indicated Sanchez needed a return to form to boost his sagging confidence, as noted by the Premier League's official Twitter feed:
Juan Mata, 11 points
Mata was at the heart of everything good United produced going forward. The pocket-edition playmaker pulled the strings in forward areas, working brilliantly with the pace of Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial, as well as the guile of Wayne Rooney.
Mata's goal, United's third after Depay and Rooney had put their names on the sheet, made the Spaniard United's most prolific attacker in this calendar year, according to Squawka:
Mata had already created Depay's opener. He made smart run off the flank to bring in Daley Blind's accurate pass, before placing the ball into Depay's path for the simplest of finishes.
While most of United's build-up play remains functional, Mata has become instrumental in manager Louis van Gaal's attack. He's the one with the technical quality and imagination to produce a moment of inspiration.
Daniel Sturridge, 10 points
Perma-crocked Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge made a thrilling return from injury in Liverpool's 3-2 win over Aston Villa. Sturridge bagged two of the Anfield club's goals.
Under-siege boss Brendan Rodgers highlighted Sturridge's skill and confidence in front of goal as vital to his team's chances:
Sturridge certainly gave the Reds the scoring instincts they've lacked so far this season. Liverpool scored just once from 47 shots during their recent penalty shootout Capital One Cup win over League 2's Carlisle, according to Sky Sports' Sam Drury.
So the return of a natural finisher was a welcome sight. How he took his goals only emphasised the quality the England man possesses.
Sturridge smartly volleyed home James Milner's astute pass for his first goal, before side-footing home after a quick exchange with Philippe Coutinho for his second.
Liverpool need Sturridge to stay fit and firing to help turn their season around. He is the clincher who can finish off the moves creative types such as Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana produce for fun.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool will be delighted to have their primary attacking threats back on form. At the moment though, most of the cheer belongs to the red half of Manchester.
Mata and the rest of Van Gaal's men are grinding out results with resourceful passing and new-found dynamism in attack. That's a potent combination set to take the Red Devils far this season.
