Liverpool Owners FSG Reportedly Warned off Jurgen Klopp in Brendan Rodgers Boost
September 22, 2015
Brendan Rodgers' future as Liverpool manager is under threat, but the Northern Irishman has been boosted by reports that Reds owners Fenway Sports Group have been warned off hiring Jurgen Klopp.
Former Borussia Dortmund boss Klopp is seen by many as the heir apparent to Rodgers, and calls for the current Liverpool manager's dismissal have been increasing after a poor start to the season, per the Mirror's Richard Innes.
However, according to Simon Hughes in the Independent, FSG have been advised not to hire Klopp, "presumably by someone with first-hand practice of working with him."
This can only be good news for Rodgers, as the German manager—who left Dortmund at the end of last season after seven successful years—is seen by many, including former Red Dietmar Hamann, as the perfect Liverpool manager, per the Liverpool Echo:
Rodgers cannot afford to rest on his laurels, though. Even if Klopp is not considered a valid replacement by FSG, there are plenty of other potential candidates out there.
Liverpool put in another poor performance on Saturday in a 1-1 draw with Norwich City. Having picked up just eight points from the first six matches of the new Premier League campaign, they currently lie 13th.

They have garnered only two points from their last four league matches and anything but a home win against Aston Villa on Saturday could spell the beginning of the end for Rodgers.
Following the Villa clash, Liverpool have fixtures against Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and Chelsea, a run of games from which they would be fortunate to claim a single victory on current form.
Klopp is not the only managerial option currently available who could be an improvement on Rodgers.
Lucien Favre recently resigned from Borussia Monchengladbach, and the Swiss could be a good fit at Anfield, per Bundesliga expert Cristian Nyari:
Rodgers will likely be given until at least Christmas to turn things around, but the pressure is building on him.
Even if Klopp is not in the picture for FSG, they will surely have other options in mind. While Rodgers almost led Liverpool to a shock Premier League title in 2013-14, they have been on a downward spiral since then.
Should Rodgers be unable to halt the decline, he will likely pay the price by losing his job.
