Francisco Lindor, Mets Players Take Blame for Carlos Mendoza's Firing, 'We Failed' Former Manager
Timothy RappJun 26, 2026
New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor put the onus squarely on the team's players after manager Carlos Mendoza was fired on Friday.
"We failed Mendy," he told reporters. "I failed Mendy. I didn't play to my capability to help him win as many games as we could. And, yeah, this one's on us as well."
Mendoza was fired following the team's 34-47 start to the season (Friday night's loss moved them to 34-48), a shocking run considering their MLB-high $326 million payroll.
Ultimately, it was Mendoza who fell on the axe.
"It was unfortunate," offseason signing Bo Bichette, who has just a .689 OPS this season, told reporters. "Mendy was good to me. I guess sometimes the manager has to take the fall for the team underperforming."
