Getafe 1-0 Malaga
Scepovic sparked hopes of an exciting encounter as he beat Malaga's defence to power home a Victor Rodriguez cross from close range.
However, the rest of the match spectacularly failed to live up to the opening moments.
There was precious little of note in the remainder of the first period, as both teams lacked ideas or any real fluency going forward. A huge number of crosses were put into both boxes, but the deliveries were largely hopeful, aimless balls.
As Real Madrid TV's Phil Kitromilides demonstrated on Twitter, it appears plenty of fans anticipated such a poor clash:
Malaga arguably had the better of the play following the goal as they had several attempts in the half, but Ricardo Horta was twice guilty of widely missing the target while Rodriguez was somewhat closer but still sent his shot off target.
Euro Sport and Event Management managing director and Malaga fan Christian Machowski explained Malaga's sub-par start to the season:
After the restart, the game followed much the same pattern as it had in the second half, with both teams abject in the final third.
Despite the win, Getafe won't have troubled upcoming opponents Atletico Madrid.
Likewise, Malaga's struggles only look set to continue as they face Villarreal and Real Madrid in their next two matches.
