La Liga Table 2015 Week 3: Updated Standings Following Friday's Results

Tom SunderlandSep 11, 2015

Sevilla's winless start to the 2015-16 La Liga campaign continued Friday evening after manager Unai Emery's men ran to a 1-1 draw at Levante.

Summer signing Steven N'Zonzi grabbed the opener for Sevilla to redeem himself after getting sent off in his club debut, but Victor Camarasa responded in the 58th minute to deny the visitors the full three points.

The result leaves Sevilla stranded just below mid-table, level on points with Levante and offering their Spanish rivals a chance to further extend their domestic advantage.

Atletico Host Barca in Clash of Past Champions

The last two La Liga winners collide at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday, where Atletico Madrid and Barcelona will hope to derail each other early after enjoying 100 percent starts to their campaigns.

Spanish newspaper Sport reported Lionel Messi will be available for manager Luis Enrique's side following the birth of his second son, but Gerard Pique will be suspended for the clash, according to Catalunya Radio (via Barcastuff):

Not only have both outfits yet to drop a point this term, but Atleti and Barca have also yet to concede their first league goals of the new season, placing more pressure on Saturday's matchup.

Manager Diego Simeone will be putting a lot of faith in the talents of star attacker Antoine Griezmann, who sent the Blaugrana a warning shot this week, proclaiming the hosts won't be holding back, per Atleti's official website (via Football Espana):

"

It's a big game for us and the fans, and we'll give everything and try to win. Barcelona always have possession, but we'll push up, be strong at the back and try to score. We had a very good pre-season. We find more rhythm and everything seems easier with every game. I always serve the collective in my work. We've started the season well and hopefully we can make it three wins on Saturday.

"

Any win at the Vicente Calderon this weekend would hand the victor a massive boost in the search for another La Liga title, with both teams having recently tasted domestic glory.

With Real Madrid already stumbling this season, the motivation is there to open up some breathing room, but a trip to the Spanish capital won't be easy for Enrique's travelling party, who have scored just once in each of their first two games.

The 0-0 stalemate at Sporting Gijon was a miserable way for Real Madrid to open their campaign, but a 5-0 thrashing of Real Betis a fortnight ago was more like the standard performance fans have come to expect.

Spanish newspaper AS confirmed this week that Danilo and James Rodriguez would be big absences for Rafa Benitez's side, hoping to mount a charge following their stuttered start:

It will be of particular interest to see how Los Merengues cope without Rodriguez, the man who confidently shaped the recent drubbing of Betis and finally set Benitez's side alight.

Espanyol will be no simple host to outmanoeuvre, either, as two of Real's last three trips to the Estadi Cornella-El Prat have ended in slim 1-0 victories.

Los Periquitos defeated Getafe 1-0 at home before surrendering to Villarreal 3-1 at El Madrigal, but they return to a home setting Saturday, looking to retain a spotless record in front of their own fans so far this season.

Whether the Espanyol support will be in as buoyant a mood after the result rests largely on which Real Madrid team shows up, with Benitez unlikely to be overly confident in his side's consistency yet.
