Bruno Mars Reportedly Asked to Perform at Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show
The NFL thought so highly of Bruno Mars' Super Bowl halftime show two years ago that it reportedly would like to see the charismatic singer do it again for Super Bowl 50.
According to Will Robinson of Entertainment Weekly, the league extended Mars an invite to headline the halftime show of its biggest game on February 7 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Colin Stutz of Billboard added the singer was asked to "curate" the show as well, hosting guest appearances and cameos during the show.
The report also mentions that representatives for the NFL and Mars did not immediately respond to a request for comments.

Mars' halftime act during Super Bowl XLVIII was the best part of that game—unless you live in Seattle, because the Seahawks trounced the Denver Broncos 43-8. It briefly held the record for most-watched halftime performance with approximately 115.3 million viewers until Katy Perry's halftime performance last year, per Phil Gallo of Billboard.com.
NFL director of media events talked about Mars' performance in December, according to Stutz:
"Myself and our producer, Ricky Kirshner, were both personal fans of Bruno and had seen him in concert and knew what he could do. And it was a lot of just telling folks here and getting folks excited about Bruno and taking them to shows and letting them see what he could do. And that's kind of what got it going.
"
Performing at halftime of the Super Bowl can be a thankless task—the less said about the Black Eyed Peas in 2011, the better—but Mars is one of the few solo acts who drew very positive reviews from the audience.
Melinda Newman of HitFix.com graded his effort with a B-plus, noting his ability to combine retro sensibilities with a new-age style.
Given that this will be the 50th year of the Super Bowl, the NFL may have something bigger planned to celebrate.
However, based on the positive feedback from his initial appearance and recent success with "Uptown Funk," Mars would seem like a strong choice to take control of the event and put his own personal stamp on things.
