Vernon Adams Injury: Updates on Oregon QB's Finger and Return
University of Oregon quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. broke the index finger on his throwing hand during a Sept. 5 victory against Eastern Washington, which could leave him at less than 100 percent for the remainder of the season.
According to Aaron J. Fentress of Comcast SportsNet Northwest, backup quarterback Jeff Lockie was given the start against Georgia State on Saturday and will continue to man the position if Adams cannot recover for the Ducks' Pac-12 opener against Utah.

Adams, Frost Comment on QB's Injury
Monday, Sept. 21
After Lockie led Oregon to victory against Georgia State, Adams told Fentress that he hopes to play against Utah after sitting out on Saturday. Adams added his finger was at "about 80 percent," via Fentress.
"We don't talk about injuries around here, but he wasn't at his best in that game," Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost said on Sept. 14 following the team's loss to Michigan State, per Fentress.
"Adams appeared at the postgame press conference with his right index finger wrapped in a splint but said it was, 'all right.' He reiterated that stance Monday, saying he would be fine," wrote Fentress.
Prior to Oregon's Sept. 12 prime-time loss against the Spartans, ESPN.com reported that Adams had "been icing his hand."
Adams was also injured in Week 1 after taking a nasty hit while sliding.
A dual threat with a strong arm and great speed, Adams adds another threat to an already-solid Oregon running game that includes Royce Freeman and Kani Benoit in the backfield.
Lockie has come off the bench for the last two seasons and was prepared to do so again with Adams getting the starting job. Lockie completed 23 of 31 passes against Georgia State, throwing for 228 yards and two touchdowns in a 61-28 victory.
Yet the perennial backup had the confidence of Frost even before Adams went down, per Tyson Alger of the Oregonian.
"Jeff's done an unbelievable job and I think he's more than capable of leading our football team to wherever we want to go," Frost said.
