Turkey vs. Netherlands: Date, Time and Live Stream for Euro 2016 Qualifier

Tom SunderlandSep 5, 2015

The Netherlands are in a race to rescue their Euro 2016 qualification campaign and travel to Turkey on Sunday for a clutch fixture in their bid to advance to the tournament.

Danny Blind's side suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Iceland on Thursday evening and defeat in Konya this weekend would see Fatih Terim's men leap above the Dutch into the third-place play-off spot.

It's a must-win encounter for the Oranje as second-place Czech Republic now sit six points ahead, while Group A leaders Iceland are eight points above the struggling Netherlands.

Oranje on Amber Alert

It was a drab outing for the Dutch as Gylfi Sigurdsson struck to haunt the Oranje once more and give Iceland a 1-0 win at the Amsterdam Arena, putting them on the verge of taking part in their first major championship.

It's a rapid fall from grace for the side that finished third at last year's World Cup and Infostrada's Simon Gleave outlines just how heavily the odds were stacked in favour of the Dutch coming into this group:

Defender Bruno Martins Indi was sent off on Thursday for unleashing a frustrated elbow upon his opponent, an act that summed up the Netherlands' predicament.

Squawka illustrated just how upsetting the Amsterdam defeat was for the Dutch hosts, who had never lost to Iceland prior to the 2-0 defeat in October last year:

A win for Turkey on Sunday would push Terim's men two points above the Netherlands with two games remaining, making automatic qualification all but impossible, depending on how the Czechs fare in Latvia.

Bouncing back to produce the goods against a talented Turkish team is no foregone conclusion, but cooler heads are needed at a time when panic would be an easy, albeit natural reaction.

Blind on the Back Foot

Having taken the team's helm in July, a defeat to Iceland was hardly the ideal way for Blind to begin his tenure as Oranje manager, but now the former assistant's mettle will be put to the test.

Prior to Thursday's loss, Blind said it was up to newly assigned captain Arjen Robben to boost his platoon, per FIFA.com, which is even more so the case now after their Group A chances were shortened:

"It is not a choice I made in accordance with their footballing qualities, but one that takes into account their personalities. Robin is a player that needs peace and quiet to concentrate on his game while Arjen is more expansive and enthusiastic. It will be up to him to boost his team-mates."

While some managers may stick up for their players, Blind was in no mood to shield Martins Indi from criticism following his lash out against Iceland.

In fact, the coach heaped further woe on the Porto centre-back as Eurosport quoted Blind lamenting his player's actions:

"

It went wrong with the red card of Martins Indi. We knew this was going to be a tough match. They play with a lot of discipline and don't give away many chances. We had some trouble with finding Robben, but after while we succeeded more and more.

And then came the moment that we give it away ourselves. I really blame Martins Indi for that, you know what the stakes are. I haven't seen it, but I heard it was a deserved red card. It's part of football, that you control yourself. There was no reason to do that and we paid a big price for this.

"

One of the positives the Netherlands could take from Thursday is that they forced Iceland No. 1 Hannes Halldorsson into making an incredible nine saves, per OptaJohan. However, the finishing needs major improvement.

Mike Collett of Reuters confirmed injury would keep captain Robben from this fixture. Blind is left struggling to relieve his side of their identity crisis, which could see them tumbling out of Euro 2016 before it's even begun.
