Premier League Table: Results, Updated Standings from Sunday's Week 4 Matches
The top of the Premier League table makes excellent reading for fans of Manchester City after four matches. By contrast, neighbours Manchester United suffered their first defeat of the season after stumbling again at Swansea City.
On the day, the Citizens signed winger Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg, per Sky Sports, the club is also the only team in England's top flight with maximum points. Better still, City are already eight points ahead of last season's champions Chelsea, who currently languish in 13th.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini won't get ahead of himself with 34 matches still to be played. But he can't ask for more than this perfect start.

United Suffer First Defeat, While Saints Win
For so long, the Red Devils seemed in control at Swansea. Juan Mata's second-half goal was merely a seal of approval for a composed display from Louis van Gaal's men.
But goals from the clever Andre Ayew and powerhouse centre-forward Bafetimbi Gomis put the Swans in a commanding position. Ayew has been a super acquisition as a free transfer this summer.
He rightfully took Man of the Match honours, per Sky Sports Football:
It was a repeat of this fixture last season, when United had taken the lead only to lose 2-1, one of a half of a United double for the Welsh side.
Manchester Evening News writer Rob Dawson bemoaned United's inability to hold the lead, despite their defensive structure:
Once again, there was a notable lack of firepower. Striker Wayne Rooney struggled to exert any influence. It also said a lot that Van Gaal's idea of freshening up the forward line was to introduce target man Marouane Fellaini.
United, who find themselves outside the top four and level on points with Arsenal and Liverpool, need something extra up front.
Meanwhile, Southampton earned their first victory of the season after bushing aside newly promoted Norwich City at home. The visitors weren't helped by Steven Whittaker being sent off just past the half-hour mark.
In truth, though, Southampton were already well on top. The Saints used excellent play, notably from the mercurial Sadio Mane, to cause problems on the flanks. Mane provided two assists, per Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News.
Striker Graziano Pelle and Mane's fellow fellow wide man Dusan Tadic bagged all the goals in a comprehensive 3-0 win. Still, the main headline wasn't pitch-related.

Instead, it focused on midfield destroyer Victor Wanyama. He was left out amid reports he's seeking a move away before the transfer window slams shut, according to Mirror reporter Darren Lewis.
City the Class of the Division So Far
No team has come close to producing the quality City have managed during their first four matches. In a case of the purists striking back, Pellegrini's daring philosophy has coaxed some exceptional attacking football from his talented squad.
At the heart of everything has been marvellous matchbox-sized metronome David Silva. The pocket-edition playmaker is the early front-runner for Player of the Season.
Through four matches, Silva has bagged a goal and registered a quartet of assists, according to WhoScored.com. As Squawka noted, Silva was his typically "tidy" self against Watford:
But while Silva's pulling the strings, new boy Raheem Sterling has also made a significant contribution. He was on the scoresheet against the Hornets and continues to give City an outlet ball with his pace.
So far, Pellegrini's men are looking unstoppable going forward, as well as stingy at the back. It's an ominous sign for the rest of the league.
Looking Ahead
One thing that stood out this weekend was the lack of discipline shown by several players across various matches. It was reflected in the punishments doled out by referees:
While some may point to fussy officiating, most of the decisions were absolutely correct. Players simply must show more composure and intelligence.
Neither of those things are in short supply for table-topping City after four games. No other squad is showing the same balance, resolve and fluidity needed to win the title.
