Janis Active vs. Jaguars

Sunday, Sept. 11

Packers.com's Duke Bobber announced that Janis was not listed with the inactive players for Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Michael Cohen noted Janis is most likely playing special teams because he is wearing a cast on his hand, as ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky tweeted:

Latest on Janis' Practice Status

Friday, Sept. 9

The team announced that Janis was a full participant at practice on Sept. 9.

Janis Undergoes Surgery, Return Timeline Revealed

Monday, Aug. 15

Janis told reporters he went under the knife, and screws were inserted into his hand to repair the fracture. Janis added that he was told it will be four to six weeks before he's able to return to action.

Janis' Injury a Blow to Packers' WR Corps

Janis enters his third season in the league in 2016 with a mere four catches for 95 yards in regular-season play, but he did flash his potential during Green Bay's divisional-round loss to the Arizona Cardinals last season. He tallied seven catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns, one of which came on a Hail Mary that tied the game and forced overtime at the end of regulation.

Janis may not be the household name that Jordy Nelson or Randall Cobb are, but Evan Silva of Rotoworld noted one particular skill that stands out with the receiver:

Green Bay can take some of the pressure off the receivers with a renewed commitment to the running game. Eddie Lacy can control the tempo of a game with his power, and James Starks is a solid option on the outside and with screens.

When the Packers do pass the ball, they still have Nelson and Cobb as one of the most dangerous one-two punches in the NFL. Cobb has racked up a combined 2,116 receiving yards and 18 touchdown catches the past two seasons, while Nelson had three seasons of more than 1,200 receiving yards on his resume entering the 2016 campaign.

Elsewhere, the Packers have solid secondary options in Davante Adams, Ty Montgomery and Jared Abbrederis for Aaron Rodgers to target. Still, Janis makes Green Bay a deeper and more dangerous offense.
