Club Brugge vs. Manchester United: Key Comments from Louis van Gaal's Presser

Christopher SimpsonAug 25, 2015

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was adamant his side would not relax ahead of their Champions League play-off second-leg tie with Club Brugge on Wednesday.

Sitting next to midfielder Marouane Fellaini, Van Gaal addressed the media in Belgium in his press conference on Tuesday.

Per United's official Twitter feed, the Dutchman began the conference by insisting his team wouldn't be complacent heading into the match with a 3-1 lead:

According to Bleacher Report's Chris Winterburn, Van Gaal admitted the match was the Red Devils' biggest of the season so far:

Van Gaal also spoke about his plans for Fellaini's position this season, which the midfielder readily accepted, per United's feed:

With the Dutchman planning to use Fellaini further upfield, it's possible United are not looking to bring in another striker this summer. Nevertheless, the Daily Telegraph's Liam approves of the decision to move Fellaini:

As for the Belgian himself, he expressed his desire to get on the scoresheet more often:

Van Gaal was also questioned about a number of other players, per the Manchester Evening News' Samuel Luckhurst.

On Marcos Rojo, he revealed the Argentinian would feature in the reserve side as he works his way back to full fitness, and while he would not confirm if Ander Herrera would start on Wednesday, he admitted he planned to rotate his squad:

Lastly, according to Winterburn, the manager spoke of the importance of promoting youth, as well as hinting at more activity in the transfer market:

After the hint that United may not be pursuing a centre-forward in the final days of the transfer window, Van Gaal's indication the Red Devils may yet do more business will be encouraging news for the Old Trafford faithful.

While United have bought well so far this summer, they've failed to convince in the Premier League and are yet to sufficiently replace their outgoing players, so another signing or two would be a huge boost in their bid to challenge for the title.

As for Wednesday's clash with Brugge, if United's players are as ready as Van Gaal says, they should have little problem in seeing out the tie.

They have defended marvellously so far this season and are yet to concede in three league matches, so holding on to a two-goal lead should be fairly straightforward if they can weather what's likely to be an early storm.
