West Bromwich Albion 2-3 Chelsea
After a disappointing start to the season, Chelsea finally got off the mark in a thrilling clash with West Bromwich Albion that saw four goals scored in the first half.
The match began at an electric pace. West Brom should have been ahead after 14 minutes after Nemanja Matic clumsily brought down Callum McManaman in the area, but James Morrison insisted on taking the resulting spot-kick, resulting in his poor effort down the middle being saved by Thibaut Courtois.
Chelsea swiftly punished the Baggies' profligacy through new boy Pedro, who exchanged passes with Eden Hazard before hitting a low, deflected strike past Boaz Myhill. The Blues doubled their lead at the half-hour mark as they broke with pace following a West Brom corner, with the Spaniard turning provider as he fed Diego Costa to slot home.

Squawka Football highlighted the winger's impressive first half performance.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville and former Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies were impressed with the 28-year-old, with Davies also noting that Manchester United's loss was Chelsea's gain:
West Brom showed hints of a comeback, though, as Morrison atoned for his early error, finishing well after Salomon Rondon found him in the box with an excellent delivery.
The ball continued to fizz from end to end as the half drew to a close, and Chelsea once again restored their two-goal lead when the ball fell kindly for Cesar Azpilicueta, whose mishit effort crept into the net as it traveled between the legs of two Baggies defenders.
The second half began as quickly as the first with yet more drama, as Chelsea skipper John Terry received his marching orders seven minutes after the restart for slightly pulling back Rondon as he bore down on goal.

With Terry denying a goalscoring opportunity, the decision appeared to be the correct one, though as BBC Sport presenter Jacqui Oatley reports, Baggies midfielder Darren Fletcher wasn't convinced:
Nevertheless, West Brom capitalised on their advantage, and Morrison grabbed his brace shortly after as he turned in McManaman's exquisite cross. The Baggies continued to push for an equaliser, but Chelsea saw out the win with some steadfast defending.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho adopted something of a siege mentality after the game. Per BBC Sport's Alistair Magowan, he said:
"Many people in this moment are disappointed in this result. People love Chelsea to lose a game.
The performance was not dramatic, not bad but obviously four points in three matches is not enough. It's our first step, three points. There is a feeling we are fighting against a lot but today we won.
"
The Blues host the in-form Crystal Palace in their next league match, which has the potential to be a tricky tie. However, with Pedro hitting the ground running, the Spaniard can help his new side continue their return to winning ways.
As for West Brom, a trip to Stoke City awaits. If the Baggies can perform as they did Sunday, then they stand an excellent chance of coming away with a positive result.
Everton 0-2 Manchester City
The two sides met at Goodison Park on the back of impressive 3-0 wins over Southampton and Chelsea, and the encounter did not disappoint as both attacked with intent and sought to create chances.
Manchester City began in similarly threatening fashion to their match against Chelsea as Sergio Aguero tested Tim Howard in the early stages, per the BBC's Phil McNulty:
David Silva was in typically fine form, carving open the Toffees' defence with consummate ease with a magnificent pass to Raheem Sterling, but the Englishman could not quite stretch far enough to make contact.
The hosts had chances of their own, however, and Romelu Lukaku almost put his side in front when he found the net, only for the linesman to correctly disallow the strike, per Sky Sports:
The Belgian came close again as he grazed the crossbar with a free-kick.
As Squawka Football demonstrated, the visitors edged the play in the first half, but Everton were far from being dominated by their illustrious opponents:
City roared out of the traps after the restart, and the influential Silva hit the post just two minutes into the second period after some excellent work from Sterling on the left.
The Englishman's persistence down that flank paid off on the hour mark as he cut inside and, despite pressure from the Toffees' defence, threaded an exquisite ball to Aleksandar Kolarov for the Serbian to power a venomous left-footed effort past Howard.
The home side responded well after conceding and tested City's somewhat unconvincing defence as Joe Hart struggled to deal with a corner before Vincent Kompany was forced to clear a Gareth Barry header off the line.
Manuel Pellegrini's side made certain of the win later on, though. Yaya Toure's effortless ball to substitute Samir Nasri was rewarded with the majestic finish it deserved as the Frenchman neatly lifted the ball over the onrushing Howard.
The BBC's John Bennett was particularly enamoured with Toure's pass:
The Sky Blues are continuing to send out a strong message to their title rivals, who will do well to come away from Goodison Park unscathed this season. Expect a comfortable victory when they welcome Watford to the Etihad on Week 4.
Everton face a difficult trip to Tottenham Hotspur, but with the Lilywhites struggling, Roberto Martinez's men can claim at least a point.
